Since attending the University of Virginia, he has been employed at a high-tech consulting firm. Time Warner published his first novel, A Step Beyond, in 2001. Hugo and Nebula award-winning author of Mars Crossing, Geoffrey Landis says: "If you're looking for realistic, high-tech science fiction, you've found it. A Step Beyond is hard-core, science-oriented SF with all of the technology of a realistic Mars mission. Anderson really knows his stuff, and it shows." Anderson currently resides in Leesburg, Virginia, with his wife and two children, where he is at work on a novel about an international hacker organization.
