Biology by Christopher Allan
It feels like a school day
anxious excitement
trapped in my stomach like moths in a jar
and the smell of pencil erasures
why did those kids have to throw gum at me
while I sat in cold silence
my dignity shed like a snake
oh I thought I hated them
but they were just inside out
while I was always intact
with my heart where it belonged
in the center of my chest
