The Gathering of the Powers by H.M. Avihail

****This tale is a description of an ancient age called,
"The First Earth Period" that has been kept secret from most of humanity
for all of the ages since. It must be noted that this is none but a small yet
extremely crucial part of the description of that age which ended at "The
Battle for the Maiden's Power". The occurrences that preceded this tale can
be read in the holy book of the Grunes, called, "The Splitting of the
Island" which also includes "The War of the Islands" that followed
this tale shortly. ****
It was called "The First Earth Period" because the
earth that we live in today is, actually, the second earth, though very few
know it. In "The First Earth Period" the earth didn't move in circles, a
day lasted for thirty hours, and there were ten days a week. In addition, the
forces of nature were rather different. With the years, the first earth became
very similar to the second, very much in thanks to a controversial,
unattractive, young, human, named Starfiuse.
Two major tribes ruled the first earth. The Oogle tribe, which
was the first, and the Grune tribe, which developed from the Oogle tribe.
At their birth, the Oogles and Grunes were very similar, but
during their years of living, the Grunes used every thing possible to signify
their great rivalry with the Oogles. The Oogles were hairy, while the Grunes
made sure to shave every hair on their body. The Oogles had horns, and the
Grunes demolished their horns on the day of their birth. The Oogles slept
standing as the Grunes slept on their knees. The Grunes even broke the glass
teeth that prevented the Oogles from speaking clearly.
It didn't matter to the Grunes that they looked like shaved
cats (which hardly existed back then), nor that they had hideous round scars on
their heads, or that they weren't comfortable at all in their sleep. If they
could, the Grunes would have also added about a meter to their short sizes so
that there would be no hint of similarity, except for the single eye and lack
of nose, between them and the Oogles, which they despised more than anything in
the entire world.
The main reason for the enmity was the conflicting attitude
that the Oogles and Grunes took towards the earth. The Oogles believed that the
forces of nature should be used for their own sake whereas the Grunes believed
that the powers of nature should be kept to earth and the earth would thank
them in its own way. The hostility and controversy achieved a new level, once
Starfiuse posed an extreme idea. It was very ironic that while the Oogles and
Grunes were the biggest groups in that age, their debate only turned the most
severe because of a young, ugly wizard that belonged to a small increasing
group called humans.

Blindness drove Starfiuse crazy and there was absolutely
nothing he could do. It sharpened the rest of his senses but what good were his
senses when he was tied to the face of a spiky rock on a tall sea cliff with
the aid of strapping iron chains and his hands were nailed to the rock? The
worst was that he could only use his powers through his eyes and now he was
completely helpless.
The pain was tremendous and he cried to the sky. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 H.M. Avihail, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
