The Gathering of the Powers by H.M. Avihail
Page 3 of 20 Anyone could fly and breathe underwater including plants, animals could
communicate with the earth, there were ponds that could tell the future, plants
that controlled thoughts, waterfalls of love and hate, and birds had
extraordinary powers in their feathers. Of course, a portrayal of that time and
its incredible forces could be much more expanded but that's enough to make one
understand of why the Oogles would want these great abilities to themselves for
they were somewhat greedy.
Their opinion would have been entirely different if they would
have had the slightest idea of Starfiuse's real intentions. But a week after
the assembly of the Grunes, Starfiuse had been hiding in an underground layer
of his cave with his two loyal fairies, making lousy attempts to hide the fear
plastering his bones.
Now on the rock, when he thought back at that time, there was
no clue that anything could have gone wrong with his plan. He had the full
support of the Oogles and they were supposed to protect him from the Grunes.
But then Nimpsy had doubts all along…
"Oh… this gorgeous lily," he remembered how Nimpsy, a young
fairy of enchanting splendor was weeping as she was hovering above ground and
holding the mentioned flower in the underground layer a month ago.
Starfiuse, then sitting in the middle of the air, looked into
her deep dark eyes and stroked her white skin.
"Trust Starfiuse," Pnomera had then whispered in Nimpsy's ear,
"He always took great care of us."
The two fairies were both beautiful and almost identical and
loyal to their friend, Starfiuse. They were the only ones that he had shared
all of his plans with. They were the only ones that had known the whole truth.
"And to think that soon people wouldn't be able to put it
under their pillows before their sleep and have pleasant dreams," Nimpsy had
continued, taking no notice of her sister's comment, "What use would there be
to flowers if you took the healing powers from the tulips, and the power to
control thoughts from the roses?"
"Now, now Nimpsy, you're starting to sound like a Grune,"
Starfiuse had teased in a soft voice, "Don't worry, I'll create the most
splendid dreams for you, that's as long as the stupid Oogles remain stupid."
"I'm afraid that the stupid Oogles are growing smart," Pnomera
had warned and her pretty face turned stern, "Rumors are starting about whether
or not, you would keep all the powers to yourself, they're starting to
suspect."
"They've got no fact to base their suspicions on," Starfiuse
had argued with rage growing in his eyes, "I'm pretending that I'm planning to
share the powers with them, why would they think I'm deceiving them?"
"Maybe because… you are?" Nimpsy posed mockingly.
He then remembered how Pnomera and he stared at Nimpsy with a
scorning expression for saying that. It was often that Pnomera supported
Starfiuse's ideas, while her sister's job was to raise doubts, but Starfiuse
wasn't interested in hearing doubts at that moment, as he had been rather full
of them himself.
"I’m sorry," Nimpsy had then apologized, "You know I'm always
sappy about nature, but the truth is I fully trust you."
"Then calm down," Starfiuse had soothed, "The Oogles would
never find out I'm not planning to share the powers with them and I will
enchant your dreams so marvelously that you'll forget you've ever had to sleep
in a garden of lilies to have sweet dreams before!"
He had sounded so reassuring back then, even he
believed nothing could go wrong. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 H.M. Avihail, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
