On Station Eight he pursues his first love, flying his sleek one-person scanner over the warp, helping the galaxy-class ships enter and exit trans/space. However not even Marlow's ensuing six years of relative safety prepare him for what happens when his old boss, power-hungry Galactic Director Jorge Engleman, arrives declaring the station is at risk from a shadowy group of insurgents called Starspinners, and demanding Marlow's cooperation in hunting them down. Involved in spite of his resolution never to be involved again, Marlow must come to terms with his past and call upon all his previous skills to defeat the evil represented by Engleman, and resolve the mystery of Starspinners.
