Monster (part one) (13 ratings) by Sam Bailey
Page 3 of 4 To our right in a glass cage, which sat apon a three foot high table, were
two enormous and hairy spiders. The biggest spiders any of us had ever seen.
Zeke seemed to be enchanted and walked closer, even going as far as touching
the glass case. "Wow! These must be super spiders!"
"They're huge." I said walking up to the case and standing next to Zeke. "I
bet they are posionous too."
We continued forward down the canvas cooridor, along the way encountering
several other strange looking reptiles and insects, most we had seen during our
previous visits.
By that time Issac was a shivering wreck, instead of his usual barrage of
irreverant speech, we were hit with a cloud of whimpers and squeals of fright.
We were nearing the end of the tour, with only one final area to be explored,
the main attraction.
We slowly turned the corner into the the main area. A stench of animal
excrements suddenly hit us and we turned away in disgust. After gathering our
composure and regaining our bearings, we travelled forward coming face to face
with a tall steel cage, within its confinments stood a beast unlike any we had
seen before.
Our first reaction wasn't one of fear, nor fright, we were frozen by pure
amazement. Within the cage stood a hulking beast, covered in dark fur that
seemed more like human hair. It's sat in a crouching position staring at us
through still brown eyes that didn't move nor blink.
We dared not move.
It's facial features seemed to be human, but I couldn't be sure. It's hands
were massive and strong-looking, in my heart I knew that he could easily bend
apart those steel bars and pounce apon us within a split second. Those massive
hands would probable enforce a powerful grip that would easily snap our small
thin bones into powder.
"What is it?" Zeke whispered to me.
Me being the smartest, the others looked toward my intellegence to be able
to identify the creature that stood before us. Nothing that I had learned in my
schooling gave me the faintest inkling to what we were looking at. I then
noticed on the ground below our feet lay a white sign stained with mud and
dirt, written on it were the words: "Feral man-beast from the uncharted regions
of Central Africa. Do not attempt to communicate, touch, or approach the cage.
Extremely dangerous".
"This must be the missing link, like Bigfoot or the Yeti." I said with
slight amazement.
"Wait, if this was Bigfoot then it wouldn't be here at a state fair, it be
in some lab getting studied by scientist." said Zeke slowly walking toward the
cage.
"Don't go near it!" yelled April. "You saw the sign!"
"This is probably just a dumb drunk in a suit. Look at it." said Zeke
pointing at it mockingly.
"Zeke, I wouldn't get close to that cage if I were you." I said cautiously.
At the same time I was looking deep into the creatures eyes, and for the first
time they moved, focusing on an approaching Zeke.
"Zeke get back!" I yelled.
A foot away from the cage Zeke turned and stuck his tongue out at me, at the
same time the creature zoomed across to the cage to were Zeke stood. His arm
protruded from the cage, reaching out to grab the back of Zeke's shirt. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Sam Bailey, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
