The Battle for Humanity (Part One) (11 ratings) by C.K. Banner
Page 2 of 12 I walked faster, my subordinates following me. "Alive and well, soldier?"
"Yes admiral." I said shaking his hand. "As always Unit G-7 survives."
"It should," He says, his tired old face turning up a smile. "That used to
be my unit. I’m glad to see I chose my replacement wisely."
I followed him down the corridor, my subordinates told to stay. From then on
in he was silent, saluting soldiers as they passed him. The pleasantries were
now over. This was business. We came up into the Central Chamber, heavily armed
guards let us in, this was zero point. It was amazing the chamber; this was the
fortress, the last line of defense. Hundreds working vigorously against the
onslaught. Humanities last attempt at survival.
"First I want to congratulate you on today." He said walking towards the
main screen. It was a gigantic blue map of the Earth. " Because of your work,
we were able to neutralize the Egaji Force in southern Africa." The map zeroed
in on South East Africa, numbers began to appear on the monitor. "We lost a
little over half a million today. This was estimated prior to the attack. Think
of it as the first punch, as for them, 134,992 Egaji dead. Half that number
injured. A smaller figure about two thousand retreated. All and all, we’re
taking back that part of the continent." I followed him as he walked to the
middle of the chamber. I was in awe at what I saw next. Could it be? A group of
about fifty towering figures were lined up at the Chamber floor. They had on
the USB Armor Suits. A bright silver light shined off them as we passed. These
are the Elect.
"Lieutenant..." he said, his voice firm enough for everyone to hear. "Let me
introduce you to the pinnacle of human civilization. Our Elect." They stood
firmly, genetically engineered, super humans. They were eight feet tall, and
throughout the ten years since this war began on the outer colonies; these were
the one’s who won the majority of the victories. Hell, the only reason we’ve
lasted this long was because of them.
"I thought they hadn’t escaped the invasion on Gaia sir."
One of the Elect stepped forward. His Armor symbol indicated his seniority
among the others. It was he...
"We lost some good men on Gaia Lieutenant. Those who died helped us evade
capture." This was Commander Val; his voice was loud and heavy, like that of a
god. "Thankfully we arrived just in time."
"This Richard is the turn of the tide." The admiral walked over to the
Center platform and raised his hand. Everybody stopped what he or she was
doing. The screen behind him lit up as he spoke.
"My dear brother’s and sister’s, our planet Earth, was once the home of a
race called the Quav. All that is really known of these ancients is that their
technology was beyond anything we have today. Even beyond that of the Egaji.
For whatever reason when the time came, they chose to leave Earth. But they
left something here for our protection." The screen behind him shows video of a
dig in what seems to be Egypt. "The scrolls found in the Great Chamber
underneath the Sphinx half a century ago, told of a colossal weapon, which
would shield the Earth from outer worldly forces. This thing, is the only
reason the Egaji hasn’t used Widespread Armament such as Nuclear or Anthirion
Weapons on us." He clears his throat a bit. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 C.K. Banner, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
