Katshiro Yomato sat silently, bent over in his chair with his head in his hands. Across from him sat an older man with white hair, dressed in a long, black robe- a man of authority.

"Sir- your Honor- I’ve come here to tell you something that you may not believe. My girlfriend has become telekinetic. She can move things with her mind. I’m telling you this in case I have to kill her- so you will understand

Kira Kasawa lifted a mug into the air and set it down at the opposite end of the table.

"You see, Shiro? I am getting better."

"Kira, you should be more resigned. This power is something to use delicately until it is properly understood. Just yesterday the grocer nearly saw you juggling those tomatoes- with no hands!"

"No!" snapped Kira. "I have the power now. Why shouldn’t I use it? It is mine."

"But, Kira-."

"You're jealous! You just don't want me to have it."

Katshiro grabbed her by the arms.

"Kira!"

The mug exploded against the wall beside them. Katshiro released his grip, shielding himself from it. But there were no fragments raining on him. When he looked between his fingertips, he saw the pieces hovering in the air. Kira’s eyes were wide and bright white.

"I have the power, Shiro."

The next day Katshiro and Kira went to the library which was connected to the Municipal building where the police and the courts were.

As they approached the door, an older white-haired man bolted out, knocking Katshiro back.

"Watch where you are going, you little punk!" scolded the man.

"Why don’t you?" snapped back Katshiro.

The man grabbed for Katshiro, but before he could get his hands on the boy, he was thrown back through the air, into the bushes, by a great force.

Katshiro paused, looking after the man to be sure he was all right. Then he hurried to catch up to Kira, who had already gone inside.

"My God," thought the old man, sitting motionless in the bushes. "I hope she can’t read minds, too."

"This is a waste of time. Why read when we can test it ourselves?"

"Kira, please lower your voice. We may find out important information here."

"Bah! I’m going to get something to drink. And Shiro? Don’t be long."

Katshiro watched her go. The tone of demand rung in his ears. She was becoming more and more aggressive. With each passing day she was less restrained and more willing to use her new found power for personal gain. But Katshiro new her very well and this restlessness in her afforded him time.

He paged through an old book on telekinesis. He quickly wrote down some names and places and secured the paper in his inside jacket pocket. That was all.

"Mr. Omato, My name is Katshiro Yomato."

"Another son?"

"No. No, sir. Yomato. Y-O-M-"

"I'm not deaf, son."

"Ah, sorry. But you look, ah, old."

"Ninety-eight."

The old man reclined in his rocking chair. The two of them sat on a porch of an old age home, on a beautiful fall day. It was three days since Katshiro was at the library. Mr. Otomo was the closest one on his list to start with.
