He remained. He waited. And it came.

An explosion blew out the entire wall behind him and the floor beneath. The shock wave shook the entire foundation. The fringes of broken cement and wood caught fire. The ensuing wind blew Katshiro’s skin nearly off of his bones, only his will keeping it on.

When it was over, a dead silence was all that was left. Thick smoke rushed out into the night air.

Kira’s hollowed laugh could be heard within the black blanket. She could not see the destruction, however, and quickly levitated across the room to see her work. Her eyes were ecstatic with the thought of it. Her smile crooked from cheek to cheek.

When she permeated the thick smoke her expression changed.

The smoke cleared, giving way to the night air. The damage was massive. Kira looked around. She was no longer pleased with the result. It was everything she had and yet not enough. But nothing froze her more as when she had turned fully around and saw the statue of David sitting firmly in the air. It, too, was untouched, undamaged.

For an instant it struck her how beautiful it truly seemed.

And as she completed her turn she saw Katshiro, now standing before her, angry yet controlled. The instant before he unleashed his power on her she knew it was over. The look in his eyes were judgment.

She thought that she loved him. She understood what he had said. "Power is nothing". She wished she could take it all back and start over again. She wished she had the words to say: "I’m sorry."

It was all over in a flash of light.

"Power is nothing
