Page 2 of 3 "Mommy, mommy look," interrupted Hector as he lifted the bird
that he held with both hands. "It’s still alive, can I keep it mom? Huh, Can I
keep it?"

The Enforcer slowly opened his eyes and stared at the young
boy that was quietly observing him. The child gave a small and hearty laugh of
delight upon seeing that he had already woken up. A laugh full of joy and
innocence, a laugh that lifted his spirits, a laugh that he would never
forget.
This boy took care of me when everybody was afraid to even
be near me. He never gave up on me when I myself had given up. He showed me
that there are other things in life. He taught me to live. I owe him my
life.
"Stay here for awhile Petre while I get you something to eat,"
said Hector as he placed Petre gently on the ground and ran towards his
house.
"So it’s Petre now e?"
Petre turned towards where the sound came from and gave an
astonished cry, Joven.
"How are you my friend? It has been awhile"
What are you doing here?
"Isn’t that what I’m supposed to ask you? You left without
even saying goodbye. You know why I’ m here, the giants have begun their
massive attack, we need your help my friend."
I have a new life now, I am no longer the Enforcer, he
replied as he slowly turned his head away.
"Then do it for him," said Joven as he pointed at Hector who
had just gotten out of his house. "Don’t you see? If the giants win, there will
be no new life, all these will be destroyed, this town, this garden, that kid,"
Petre examined Hector as he walked slowly towards him with a
glass full of seeds. He had a new home now and he knew he was always welcome
here but he could not bare the thought of letting innocent people die of a war
that never concerned them. Petre turned around, looked at Joven and sadly
replied, Very well.
"Petre?" Hector dropped the glass that he was holding and ran
after Petre when he saw him took flight. "Petre, where are you going? Petre,
don’t leave me. No, Petre doooon’t!"
Tears began to trickle down Petre’s cheeks as he soared away.
I will do anything for you. I owe you my life. Till we meet again my friend.

Levi watched the Enforcer as he hovered above the burning
rooftops and scanned the landscape below for any signs of life. I have to
admit, he fought bravely, Levi thought. The giant host was overwhelming and
for an instant the battle seemed lost, lost until his father returned with the
Enforcer. Levi could never forget the look on one of the giant’s face when he
saw the flying figure that came at him with great speed, "Giant slayer," Levi
heard him curse as the Enforcer took its life in an instant.

A sudden cry pierced the air.
"Petre!"
I know that voice, the Enforcer thought as he flew towards
direction where the sound came from. The flames that blocked his path blurred
his vision yet he could still recognize the outline of Hector and his brother.
They’re alive!
"Enforcer," said Joven as he reached out his hand. "Come, the
battle is already won."
Maybe for you, he replied. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 bir, sffworld.com. All rights reserved. No part of this may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the author.
