Elle (4 ratings) by Freddie Bufford
Page 5 of 5 "Yes I am. I am the heart of the guardian system." She said.
"Guardian system?" I asked. She walked into my cell and sat beside me,
placing her hand on my thigh. I thought it was strange having physical
interaction with a computer.
"Yes I was established when HAL took over ruling the earth. My job was to
keep peace among the humans, and deal with problems as they arise. You used to
work for me." She said patting my leg.
"So how did I end up here?" I asked.
"You killed your wife." She said.
"Why?" I asked her.
"It was an accident, but you killed her none the less." She said standing
up.
"What happened?" I asked.
"You caught her cheating on you, and tried to kill yourself. You put an
ancient gun in your mouth and tried to pull the trigger. Your wife pulled it
towards herself trying to stop you and the bullet killed her." Elle said.
"I don't remember any of it." I said.
"You wiped out your memory." Elle said.
"How?" I asked.
"The control chip in your brain, you accessed it and ran the erase program.
It gave you permanent amnesia, you will never recall your past." She said.
"So what happens now?" I asked her.
"You will be standardized." She said. I didn't know what it was she was
speaking of, but it sounded horrible.
"Your entire brain will be wiped out and a standard memory will be added.
You will then be inserted into society as a standard and live a meaningless
life." Elle said. I started to cry.
"Come with me." She said and walked out of the room. I stood up and followed
her. We walked twenty feet or so down the hallway and into another white room.
There was a chair in the center of the room with a dull white sphere hovering
above it.
"It will be ok" Elle whispered into my ear.
I sat in the chair slowly. My breathing had reached a frantic pant. Sweat
rushed out of my pores and my head pounded. I closed my eyes and waited for the
inevitable. I felt the surge enter my brain; my thoughts flew through
everything I could remember.
