Had it been just them, Rogue would have had them shove a hot poker in his shoulder, bind it and be back on the battlements before dawn.

"You are a stubborn little wench aren’t you?" Rogue teased Emerald.

"I told you I would make you rue the day you married me." He pulled her close with his right arm.

"Nay love, I thank all those above us for that day." He looked deep into her eyes. "Thank you Emerald." He kissed her so sweetly it brought tears to her eyes. She clung to him tightly, forgetting for a moment about his wound until he groaned a bit.

"Oh beloved I am sorry. Come over here and rest. You need it. And don’t argue with me." She added when she saw him open his mouth to protest. "I will wake you in an hour with a good hot stew that will help you heal quicker. And I will check your wound then as well."

He nodded knowing he would not get around her. He truly did bless the day he was forced to sign the contract and doubly so the day he wed her. He swore when this war was over he was going to lock them both in their room for a week and make love to her in everyway possible and really and truly get to know his wife.

He yearned to fill her with his seed and begin their family. This war made him realize just how important family truly was. He was finally realizing just how right his father was and he prayed to Bo-vina and Veakoth for the war to end soon and they be victorious and that he could tell his father all his thoughts.

Chapter Eleven

At that same moment that Rogue was thinking of his father, his father was dying from a sword wound. It was not a deep wound but the blade had been coated in poison, so the cut did not have to be deep.

He was wishing he could hold his wife and all his children and grandchildren and how he could be there to see Rogue’s first born but the Fates did not want him to see all that.

The Amazons had just arrived and he had looked up praising Veakoth for sending them to help and that was when he received the cut. He had killed the low ranking shadow knight but it didn’t matter. He shouldn’t have because that man knew what poison was on the blade and there might be an antidote, but now it did not matter.

Word was sent to Rogue that his father had fallen in battle and as he sat there at his desk he wrote a letter to his son. He had already written to his wife.

"Rogue, my only son,

I will be gone when you get this. I know your heart will be sad but please do not despair. I died in battle as any warrior wishes too. I will be honest though, I was hoping I would be with your mother in her arms when I left this world.

"But Xandavia our Mother Goddess calls me and I cannot ignore her call. I wish I could have lived long enough to see you and Emerald have your first child, then my life would have been complete.

"Be good to that young woman, she is the half of you, you never knew was missing. You complete each other as your mother and I complete each other.

"I know you will be a good and fair ruler of Hawkington. I know you will rebuild all for our people and they will love you. Remember be firm but kind and hear all the stories before deciding. Always look a man or woman in the eyes when they speak.
