Due Exchange (15 ratings) by Nathan Carter
Page 4 of 4 As he stepped inside he could hear two distinct voices talking, and one was
clearly not human. A wave of horror shot through his bones as he entered and
beheld the creature from another world. It stood over nine feet tall and was
humanoid in form. It’s head was out of proportion, however, to its body and its
eyes were large, deep set and pupil less. Collin screamed out and tried to tear
away from his escorts and run. But he was restrained and then handcuffed to a
steel bar bolted to the wall.
The dialogue between the alien and the other man wearing a Generals uniform
continued.
"And so, this one is not necessary. We have come to a suitable conclusion."
said the extraterrestrial in a monotone voice.
"But… but you can’t be serious. We have cooperated in every way you have
asked of us, you can’t do this." said the official.
"We have determined that your race is unacceptable to inhabit the universe,
you are a civilization of brutal murderers and criminals."
"No… no… we’ve simply been sending you our criminals, our undesirables… you
can’t pass judgment on us by the test subjects. They have all been convicted
and condemned men!"
"You have also taken the technology given to you and have used it for
destructive purposes. Unsuitable, that is your verdict. Your race and planet
will be eliminated from the universe."
"You can’t do this! Who are you to judge our right to exist!"
"There has been peace in the universe for over ten thousand years. We have
maintained this by visiting each planets civilization at the time they are
ready to venture beyond their world and studying their psychology. We then
determine if a race is too hostile to continue. There can be no war without the
power hungry minds that plot it."
"You… you bastard"
The General drew his gun and pointed it at the alien in a passion-fueled
moment. The space creature then took its gloved hand and wrapped it around the
Generals. He screamed in pain as the being squeezed. When he let go, the
Generals hand was no longer a hand but now a lump of flesh fused together with
the steel of his gun. The General fell to his knees and clutched his deformed
limb.
"Tomorrow at twelve O’clock noon your time is the set moment of eradication.
We would suggest that you did not inform your public, since that would only
cause a mass panic and set forth chaos in your final hours. Farewell."
The alien turned and left the room, leaving the humans inside all equal in
their doom.
