The Ancient Ones (13 ratings) by D. M. Chien
When billowing clouds shade the moon
And the shadows come alive
The questing wind and sighing pines
See the Ancient Ones arrive
The imps, the elves, the traipsing trolls
With their rattling games of dice
The goblins, gnomes, and dwarf-men too
With their bristling beards of ice
Grumbles and mumbles stir the air
As the heaving shadows roll
Twixt the tramping faerie feet
And before blinking eyes of coal
Who knows what they speak of?
What messages do they share?
What secret trysts are whispered here?
What arcane spells laid bare?
No human ear shall ever know
The mysteries here wind-blown
For hark! Ere the morn has come
The Ancient Ones have flown
