Prime Paradigm: The Adventures of Earth's First Ambassador (Book Synopsis) by Paul Chilson Buy from amazon.comPage 1 of 1 Many have heard of Clint Talbert. However, few know the details of his
escape from the Novian ice-caves, his training with the Strength, encounters
with Bhortite patrols, Jik rituals, and Russian prisons. Searching for
greater perspective and purpose, Clint's adventures took him to four continents
and three solar systems, before he unraveled the ancient secret of Earth's
bondage. Only then did he become the central figure in the last galactic
war, and Earth's first Ambassador.
Prime Paradigm is a novel that speaks on many levels. First,
and perhaps most important, it is a fun read. With likable characters and
interesting plots and twists, the action keeps coming. On another level,
it is about a boy - Clint. Growing up in a military stronghold at the
South Pole, he has problems fitting in. But as the best APP fighter they'
ve ever seen, he is also concerned about his own pride. Circumstances
conspire together to put Clint on a run for his life, forcing him to befriend
his own enemies. As he begins to understand each new culture, he is
confronted with yet another. Clint finds himself growing, and being
confused, in ways he never thought possible.
On another level, there is the mystery of the 'Time of Chaos', or the second
dark ages of the Earth. Clint is the first one to learn that its origins
were not entirely of this planet. On yet another level, we find the
musings of how technologies transform societies, and in this novel there is a
vast array of technologies and cultures. Some shun technology, while
others embrace all, with their gravity manipulative technologies, and cellular
nanite communication that make an entire species one entity. Finally, on
the deepest level, it challenges us, the readers, to examine the paradigms we
view the world through. Is there a prime paradigm, the best vantage point
for understanding ourselves and the universe around us, or is that something
only God can grasp?
Prime Paradigm has 33 chapters, broken into three sections.
The first, deals with Clint's life in the Novian ice-caves, and the sorted
circumstances by which he must escape. It then goes into his encounters
with two other curious main-land cultures. The second section finds Clint
searching his own soul, falling in love, and trying to understand an ultra
religious militant society. The third section is stranger yet, as Clint
is flung towards the galactic center, and also the center of an eons old
galactic struggle. Only by calling upon all that he has learned can he
find his way back to confront his origins.
The author Paul Chilson has only recently moved back to the USA after three
years with his wife and two daughters in Scandinavia. He says that this
experience, more than any other, forced him into a deeper understanding of
cultures, and how people are the same, and yet fundamentally differently.
He has been an avid reader of Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein, and it shows in
his work.
