Devaki (9 ratings) by Joe Curlee Jr.
Page 4 of 4 I reached out to him and examined him for a pulse, his skin was cold and
hard, as though he had been dead for hours, and there was no sign of life.
Suddenly, I cam to the realization of what had happened. I had made my first
payment for the purchase of life. I had replaced Devaki. Upon that terrible
realization I automatically knew what I had to do. I would have to do the job
that Devaki had done, I would have to become the new Salesman of Life and
Death, seeking out the remote locations that Death could not reach, trying to
bargain with people who were on the verge of passing away so that I myself
could one day join them in death for the rest of eternity.
Years have passed since those happenings. I am still weary, yet I can never
sleep. To this day I still have found no one to take my offer of life, and so
the must perish, and I can not help but wish that I could do the same.
