The Magicians' Academy (16 ratings) by Luke Daigle
Page 3 of 3 Demitri inhaled a deep breath of the scented air and slowed his pace to stop.
He gazed upon the aqua waters catching his reflection upon the pools of blue.
Decorative limestone bordered the rippling water beaming against the morning
light. " There trepidation does have some merit my boy. Hear me out now Donato
I know those words sound harsh " Donato's eyes widened as the sorcerors words
cut him like a sharpened blade. " No you will hear me first Demitri, I have
heard the same things from others but I certainly never believed I would hear
those same words from you. Yes I am arquesian and that is something I cannot
change and I never would choose to for it is my heritage and the composition of
my being. I am not here for the arquesians to finally dominate every facet of
the empire. I took an oath to adhere to the best interests of the academy and
renounced myself of obligations to anything other than the academy. Is my oath
then not good enough for you! " an acerbic voice engraved his speach. " The use
of Demitri's name instead of his title of master over the boy was noted but not
pressed. " Donato understand we have all been under the rule of the Arquesian
empire our whole lives, and despite the mass burning of all other history of
our culture there are still remains of that history of a time when we were
liberated from the empire. My country, all of the numerous countries within the
empire were at one time under there own rule. One day we wish that returned to
us, it is ours and we should never be denied our freedom no matter how grand or
peacful absolute rule may be. I speak against the empire I know that and
perhaps you have never heard it openly voiced, but make no mistake if I or any
of us for that matter found a way to divide from the empire we would
immediatley seize the oppurtunity " the vehement zeal from the sorceror
startled the young man. "Perhaps I am lacking in my comprehension of this
master, I may be an aspiring sorceror but once I was the son of an arquesian
noble. Of course you are aware of that but understand my outlook differs vastly
from your perspective in such aspects " Donato said defensively. " I know my
boy and I do not see you as simply an arquesian, but that does not mean I am
unaware of how another may feel towards an arquesian who may eventually play a
strong role or one day even preside as lord of the council. You still have a
remembrance as the life of an arquesian though and still carry those ideals and
no oath will put there minds at ease. Let us set this affair aside for at least
a moment " he waved the matter away with brush of his hand through the air.
"The morning of the morrow you will be tested, secrets of incogitable power
will be yours to wield, your mind will truely see and what once you were blind
to will now become perfect clarity. The testing has been conducted in obscurity
for quite some time now, and it is coveted by an oath my boy, of binding nature
never relinquishing what happens behind those doors when the test has been
completed " the resolution in his voice told Donato that there would be grave
consequences should he break the oath. " I must admit my excitement, the
knowledge to be imparted upon me gods I will be mightier than Jashara himself
won't I master " exhillerating excitement defined the young voice. " If only
father could see me now, no he says you will be a great warrior some day not
some damn worthless magician. You'll tire of this nonsense and be begging for
coppers on the streets because you will not dare take another step under my
roof " he emulated his fathers sharp voice flawlessly. Demitri fought back
laughter, he was aware the boy still attempted to gain the acceptance his
father should have given such a bright boy unconditionally, and that his father
could not see him perform the extraordinary feats of talent or that his father
would never be satisfied unless the boy came into a prominent position of his
choosing failed to diminish Donato's hopes for acceptance.
