The sound of clashing, crunching metal was still heard, when Steven began to feel almost as if his own body wasn’t there anymore. The present had responded in time, he was returning! Everything then turned black.

RETURN TO THE PRESENT (PART 2)

"Shit! What the hell happened?! Is Steven alright?!" Rob exclaimed.

The time-machine had arrived, earlier than Rob and the crew members had wanted, just as it did the first time. But unlike the first time, the machine’s top had been crushed in, and there were other dents and marks all over it as well.

Mr. Meyer was standing besides Rob, as Steven crawled out of the time-machine, looking bruised and beat up.

"Oh no! Are you all right?! What happened to you? What happened to the machine?" Rob asked Steven.

Steven replied, "I’m not quite sure myself. Something… something big… attacked the machine, and tried to eat it or something! I was in the ocean, so it could have been a shark, or something else. But whatever it was, it was definitely huge."

"You look pretty beat up, did this thing, whatever it was, thrash the machine around?" Mr. Meyer asked.

"Well take a look! Look at it! Of course it did! It tried to crush the machine until it could be the size the creature wanted it, so it could eat the machine, or swallow it," Steven said.

"Did you get a sample?" Mr. Meyer asked, in a concerned manner.

Rob was outraged, and said, "His life was just on the line, and you ask him a question like that?! You don’t care about his safety, or even his life, do you?"

"Well, the contract states that dangers are involved. He signed the contract, so by doing that, he knew that danger and life threatening events could happen," Mr. Meyer stated.

"Hold on here. You two don’t get angry and into a fight now. No, I didn’t get a sample, and yes, I knew that dangers could happen. I was aware. But please, if you are thinking of getting me out of this experiment just because my life was in danger, you’ve got another thing coming. So far, though my life has been in jeopardy, this experiment has been most intriguing, and I wish to continue. I especially want to go to the next time period on the list… the Jurassic. I MUST visit and observe that time! That time period, and the creatures that inhabited it, are the main reason why I wanted to be a paleontologist! The dinosaurs, the most magnificent creatures that ever existed, are found there. And if you don’t let me go there…" Steven was saying.

"Now, now, Steven. No one said you were getting taken out of the experiment. I was just concerned about you, and in truth, thought you might want to back out. But as I can see, you don’t. Besides, like Mr. Meyer said, you are on contract. I wouldn’t be able to take you out of the experiment anyhow. Say…" Rob was saying, "What’s that right there?"

He walked up to the time-machine, and grabbed something out that was sticking out of it.

"It’s a tooth, look how big it is! It’s the size of my hand!" he said.

Steven ran over to him and told Rob, "This must be a tooth of the creature that attacked the machine! This could be our sample! I should examine it, and see what it belongs to. I’ll use the computer in the time-… well… I guess the time-machine has to be repaired."
