She knew what was coming next.

"Shut up!"

At that moment, a car pulled into the parking lot.

"Fuck! If you say anything to anyone, I'll fucking kill you! Do you understand me?"

She did not respond.

"I said do you fucking understand me?!"

"Yes..."

"Good. And I don't ever want to catch you with that nigger in here again. You got it?"

She nodded.

"Good."

George ran as fast as he could. The girl got into her car, locked the doors, and continued to cry.

George came home at around eleven at night, ready for sleep. He navigated his way through his parents’ estate into his room. He plopped down on the bed and lay there for a few minutes. He had begun to drift off into sleep when the phone rang.

"Zen- see ‘not zen’"

"Where's grandfather?" George asked his father. He had received a call from him earlier and took a jet across two states to one of his grandfather's town houses. He had been told that his grandfather was not well and that he should come see him immediately. He was in his death bed.

"He's in his room. His nurse is giving him his medication right now. He wanted to see you."

"What's wrong with him?"

His father held his tongue. He thought for a few moments before speaking. "Go in and talk to him."

George made his way into his grandfather's room. The nurse was just collecting her things and leaving. George noticed right away that the girl was "Hispanic". She left the room and closed the door behind her, leaving George alone with his grandfather.

"Grandfather."

"George."

"How are you feeling?"

"Well, I'm dying so pretty damn shitty, son. How about yourself?"

George cracked a smile. "Not too bad. You wanted to see me?"

"Heh? Oh, yeah. For a few reasons. First thing..."

George's grandfather paused for a moment.

"Son, you live a pretty easy life and that's fine. Your father did too at your age. But pretty soon you'll be in the family business. You understand that, right?"

George nodded.

"You know back during the Great Depression when everything was going to shit and socialism and... fucking communism was on the rise... Most of us in big business were in quite a jam. It seemed like people were realizing that everything was bullshit and people began to see that the currency was worthless. Suddenly the average man was realizing the difference between price and value. Roosevelt's New Deal might have looked like an assault on free trade but we were assaulting free trade before and god dammit, we weren't gonna' let everything we had collapse. We used that asshole Roosevelt to make the government bigger so we had an even better tool for business to operate with and slowly but surely, we got out of the depression. And there wasn't any chance of a revolution because we gave too many people government jobs and no one wants to bite the hand that feeds them. Incidentally, that's also why we created welfare and social security. And best of all, government didn't regulate big business any more than it did before apart from a few publicity stunts, because we owned the fucking government and found a way to do it even better. The people we control are ignorant. We made them that way. We created the educational system to brainwash them and gave them a choice to either go along with us or end up on the street. Of course they all want the loot."

George spoke up, "What do you mean by 'brainwashing?'"

"George, in business and in any system, there is a word that is very important to remember. That word is 'stability.' If you don't have stability, you don't have shit. If I'm running an assembly line making...
