"Today, the culmination of scientific research conducted over the last fifteen years by the North American Alliance, Latin Confederation, Brazilian Compact, Argentinean Coalition, Japanese-Pacifica Union, British Commonwealth, and the European Commonwealth, has come to fruition. Sub-space; once only the realm of theory, has become reality." Samantha looked down at her monitor and saw Alex's image moving down to the right hand corner of the screen. A display of subspace theory began to take shape on to the screen.

"In short subspace can be explained as a dimension where the empty space between objects do not exist. Once sufficient energy has been produced, the subspace barrier can be breeched allowing a ship to transit through. Seconds later the ship comes out at the opposite focus point." Mandrake paused. Taking a breath, he looked at his monitor. It showed the model ship going through the subspace vortex, and the emerging from another vortex. "Tonight, we at GNN bring to you, our loyal viewers, footage of humanity's first voyage into subspace. When we return, GNN will bring you an exclusive interview with the pilot of the Unity test ship, Commander Cale Derrick." Alex heard the music begin to play again as the assistant producer lowered his hand.

"We are clear, back in two people." A legion of makeup artists ran to the desk and began to assault Alex with powder and other touch ups. Sam pushed her way though all the people around him.

"Alright Alex, you are doing great."
"You expected anything less?" Mandrake said in his typical arrogant tone.

"Of course not dear," she said in a motherly tone. "Now this is a big exclusive with Commander Derrick. No other network could get this. So just stick to what the prompter has to say, no improvisation, alright?"

"Sure Sam, whatever you say," he said as he rolled his eyes and reclined in his chair. "Away you ghouls," he shouted to the girls around him. The assistant producer started to yell again, his voice giving perfect insight into his nervous condition.

"We are back in thirty people. Makeup, get off the stage. Prompter, make sure you double check those questions, and then check them again." Samantha gave her final nod of assurance to Alex before turning and walking back to her chair. She settled down and took a look at her monitor, watching the final commercial draw to its end.

"We are back in five, four, three . . ." The assistant producer silently counted down the final two, and then gave Alex the point. The red light snapped back to life. Alex stiffened up and began to continue his report.

"Before the break we introduced the pilot of the Unity jump ship, Commander Cale Derrick. The Commander represents the best pilot that the world was ever seen. Born and raised in the British Columbia sector of the North American Alliance, he joined the Alliance Air Force at the age of nineteen. Derrick did his part, serving his nation during the South African coup, distinguishing himself as a pilot, and earning the Alliance's highest medal, the platinum cross, for supreme valor in battle.

At the age of twenty-nine he was promoted to Commander, but turned down his own squadron to join the Alliance Space Forces. For the following five years he worked as a test pilot. Flying the state of the art exo-endo atmospheric fighter planes, and the occasional patrol to the Alliance's moon base." Alex took a momentary pause, as instructed by the prompting, to allow his words to sink into the audience. "It is with great honor and respect that G.N.N. now brings you an exclusive pre-flight interview with Commander Cale Derrick." Samantha looked down at her monitor and saw Alex's image shift to the side.
