Halo's by L. A. Evets
Page 3 of 5 One nurse, fearful of the tiny object, backed away from the operating table
until she bumped into the wall. Sluggishly the vapor ball elevated upward until
it encountered the ceiling. It paused briefly and drifted downward then
elevated back up to the ceiling. It continued to bounce against the ceiling
tiles seemingly searching for a way to escape. The frightened nurse became
apprehensive at the moving vapor and ran for the operating room doors. The ball
of vapor apparently witnessed the nurse’s quick departure and realized the
doors were a way out. Once again forming itself into a mist, the vapor slide
between the operating doors and disappeared into the adjoining room.
The operating staff eyed one another hoping one of them had an answer to
what they had just witnessed.
"Doctor." The anesthesiologist spoke out. "Her vitals! They’re all normal,
blood pressure, breathing, everything. She’s seems to be fine."
The vapor trekked through the halls of the hospitals un-noticed by everyone
as it found the last remaining exit. A set of sliding doors at the rear of the
hospital allowed it to escape into free air. It traveled skyward unabated by
any further boundaries it once had encountered when trapped inside Mrs.
Robins’. Although the medical staff couldn’t tell, this little Halo was very
frighten. It was happy to be free from its terrifying experience and was eager
to return home, an awaiting mother ship cloaked just above the earth’s
stratosphere. The Halo was allowed entry to the mother ship through a portal at
mid-ship. Inside two royal guards stood sentry waiting to greet him. As they
escorted him through the royal corridor he became dizzy and nauseous and
vomited on one or the guards. "Oh. I am so sorry." Slurred the little Halo
known as Ins. "If you will allow me, I will take care of that when I feel
better."
The guard excused himself leaving the other guard to escort Ins to the Great
Hall. Ships sensors had detected Ins, as he left earth’s atmosphere. Word
spread quickly of his pending arrival, allowing more than two thirds of the
five billion Halo’s on board the ship enough time to gather in the Great Hall.
They, as well as their king were eager to hear Ins report on his travels to
earth.
The King shuffled in his seat as he watched the one guard escorting Ins with
great difficulty as they approached. As they reached the end of the red carpet
Ins stopped to bow and he fell over. Two royal Ushers quickly came to his side
helping him to right himself. He attempted to bow once again. This time he was
successful.
"Rise, my trustworthy Ins." The King commanded with concern. "Tell me, are
you feeling well?"
"No, my Lord. I am suffering the ill effects of being attack." Ins, was
unaware of his being inebriated by the narcotics.
The Great Hall gasped in unison.
"Was it the humans?" The King queried leaning forward in his throne. "Is it
true what the Algeleans have warned us? Are the humans barbaric and spiteful
relishing in blasphemy amongst their fellow humans?"
"No my Lard. I mean, Lord. They are actually quite different than what we
have been told. What attacked me also attacks humans." The Great Hall erupted
in Halo conversation.
"Silence, silence." Bellowed the Duke of Halo’s
"Continue Ins. Who is this menace?"
"If allowed, I’d like to start from the beginning of my misshin."
"Yes, Ins, of course. We want to hear it all."
"For my subject, I chose an elder of their kind, one they call a female. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 L. A. Evets, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
