An Unexpected Attack

The harsh wind was causing my eyes to tear up heavily. Then the cold froze the tears to my face. It was as if I had tiny frozen rivers streaked across my cheeks.

Here in the area of Blitzen it is cold all year round. There is only one season, and that is winter. We rarely get strangers in these parts since most people can't handle the extreme cold. I'm used to it though, as I have lived here all my life.

I am one of the Elite Knights of Blitzen. Nine of the Knights, including myself, were on our way to resolve our problem with Secron. Some say he once ruled over these lands as King until his rein was overthrown by war. Whatever the case, he has been accused of necromancy by our Queen. Necromancy is not allowed around here.

We all sat on the trailer pulled by horses as they took us through the woods closer and closer to Secron's domain. The trailer had no sides, and no roof, exposing us to the elements of this harsh land. The reason for having an open trailer like this was to help us prepare for battle. The Queen feels that exposing us to the harsh conditions before a battle would harden us and make us stronger.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a small white fox dash across the snow. You don't see many of those around here anymore. Over-hunting has all but wiped them out.

After what seemed like hours, we finally go there. It appeared that Secron was a wealthy man for I soon found that, he did not live in a house, he lived in a tower. The tower went about twice as high as the gigantic trees. It was made of icy greenish stone blocks and had no windows.

Now, before we even got off the trailer, I heard something off in the distance. A sort of rumbling. With every second it seemed to get closer and closer. I wondered what it was. Then suddenly I found out. What felt like an earthquake with every stomp, a huge Forest Dragon came running out of the trees toward us.

Forrest Dragons are the reason you don't go into the woods by yourself. Fortunately there are no fire-breathing Dragons around here but, the Forrest Dragons are still quite deadly. They are about four times the size of a human and have a spiked tail that can be used as a whip. When they are controlled by a Necromancer, such as this one, who knows what can happen.

Immediately we scattered into the trees. The Archers stayed in front while the rest of us Swordsmen ran to a few trees behind them. Before they even let loose a few arrows, they were killed. The Dragon rampaged through the trees, whipping and crushing and biting. In only a matter of seconds, more than half of the Knights I was with were killed.

We needed a quick way to escape! I saw our horses were desperately trying to run away but, didn't get very far before the trailer they were tied to got caught on some trees. I made a dash for them. I had to get the horses free so that the few of us that were left could ride them back to safety.

Someone else had the same idea and was running in front of me. Suddenly a huge green tail whipped out from the trees and hit him. The spikes stuck into his chest and his body began to drag along behind the Dragon. Blood splattered on my face. I was more horrified than I had ever been in my life. I felt like vomiting. The dragon became very distracted by this lifeless body that was now stuck to its tail.

I used this distraction to my advantage. I ran up to the horses, unhooked one, and hopped on. I looked around to see whom else I could give a ride to. There was no one. All others were now dead. I quickly rode out of the woods... a failure.
