"I don't know who that fellah is that we're picking up but my guess is that if they want a regular little merchant ship to pick him up it's because they don't want to be spotted doing it. I know for a fact that there's at least a hundred ships that could get there faster than we could, but no, they want to be discreet I tell ya."

"Yeah, I thought about that too. That guy must be some sort of political refugee, or maybe he's a spy, who knows really."

"That's exactly why we shouldn't be doin this."

"Not even for double pay and a trip to Dal Imur?"

"Hell no. My life's worth more to me than a few lousy coins and a little sex."

Davin thought about this for a few seconds before answering. "Well mine isn't. As long as the Captain wants to pay us double I don't care who we're picking up. Besides don't you think you're worrying too much. I mean damn Tobby the guy could just be some rich idiot who happened to court the wrong girl, and here you're talkin about death."

"Oh sure he is. What if he's a mage? Did ya ever think about that? Every sailor worth his weight knows mages are bad luck. Your problem is that your still young. I'll bet Durg here has a different opinion on the matter. Selians are a smarter people anyhow." Tobber then muttered something in Selish to Durg.

A small conversation took place while Davin watched. To his eyes it seemed that Tobber was doing most of the talking while Durg stared at Tobby as though he were trying to talk him into eating horse dung. Davin caught a "Dal Imur" and a "Renes", which he knew meant 'women', while they were talking but not much else. Finally Tobber threw his hands in the air and gave up on the conversation.

"So what did he say Tobby?"

"Man's a fool. I gotta get back to the helm." Tobber left mumbling under his breath.

Davin matched eyes with Durg and they both let out a small chuckle. It seemed that Durg was as willing to go to Dal Imur as Davin was.

It's not that he wasn't worried at all. It was quite simply the fact that this trip seemed more like a vacation than any he had ever been on, not to mention that he would be getting double pay while he did it. Besides, he doubted that anything truly bad would happen. Though, the prospect of having a mage onboard did not appeal to him in the least. He decided he would play with Durg's looking contraption a little longer. He pointed the device back towards the coastline where he thought he could make out some trees.

Davin's fun was interrupted by Mani, another Talish crewmember who looked much like Renko only smaller. At fifteen, Mani was the crew's youngest member.

"Davin, the Captain he say he want you."

"Damm!" Davin handed the wondrous thing back to Durg and thanked him again. Durg just nodded his head as if to say "anytime".

"Hey Mani, have you seen that thing that Durg's got?"

"Yeah! Is great!" he replied.

"Yeah it is. So what's the Cap'n want?"

"He want you."

"Yeah I know, but why?"

"How do I know?"
