The Dark (3 ratings) by Dawn Furniss
Page 1 of 2 He could make it. He knew he could. What's the use of having them when
you don't use them? He thought. His weapons were in there. So was she. If
she could just try not to tangle him up in knots. Sometimes he thought they did
it on purpose. Oh well. He moved out of his hiding place, a niche in the
wall, and instantly he moved, almost faster than the eye could see. The guards
were dead, long before they realized anything was there. The laser grid
detectors didn't go off as he sped through. The thick steel door opened after
seconds. Then the hard stuff began. Well, not really.
An entire legion of troops stood stiffly in perfect rank, weapons held at
the ready. He scoffed mentally, laser guns..hmph. it was disgusting to
have to even deal with this. But I have to get in. This time he jumped
up, catching onto the wall easier than a seasoned spider. He made himself bend
the light, so nothing would be able to see him. The m'hael would be proud of
how far he had developed his strange skills. He blurred to a window, where,
with a touch, he melted the glass into a small ball, which was thrown out the
door where he had entered. Lasers streaked the room and all the guards ran
toward the entryway, ever so eager to please this "Roali." Disgusting.
He very nearly spat. Quickly, so as not to waste any time, her dropped to the
ground. When he landed, no sound was created.
M'hael would be VERY happy. Thirty hides down, and still no sound. He
froze. The doors to "Raoli's" Chamber of "Justice" opened. A small,
large-nosed, rat-looking man stuck his head out. He died as well. Without a
second glance he threw him into a corner and flashed through the open doorway.
Halfway into the room he stopped and took the shape of the rat-faced man.
"Well?" a deep, but still strong voice inquired, "Joian, do not toy, I am
not in the mood today."
He smiled and nodded, making his voice sound correct, "They are
investigating a SOUND." He stressed the word, and could not hide his
disgust.
The man nodded and turned back to what he had been doing. Before Raoli had
completed the turn though, he leapt at him, taking back his normal shape. Raoli
blurred back, and punched him hard in the ribs, then he grabbed him by the
belts criss-crossing his chest and put his face right in front of his.
"DAMEK!!!" he roared, "you should NOT have come!!!"
Damek just smiled slightly in return, not shaken in the least.
"AAGH!!!" Raoli, whose real name was actually Dorian, threw him across the
room. Slamming against a pillar, Damek grunted and gasped for air. So Dorian
HAD learned to do something with his dark faerie powers. Dorian stalked toward
him, rage like a fiery volcano turned his eyes blood red, with his apparent
mood. Damek's eyes stayed their dusty blue, he kept tight hold on his emotions.
The thought of Dorian not doing so brought up even more disgust, and made Damek
cringe inside.
"YOU - WILL - PAY!!" he screamed at Damek, white fire already forming on his
fingertips. But before he had the chance to throw it, a yell tore through the
chamber.
"NO Dorian!" Bridget shouted, running into sight.
"Bridget.." Damek muttered, too low to be heard by anybody, " don't
please."
She came to stand in front of Dorian, her eyes stabbing icicles, "Damek is
your KIN. Why are you so quick to kill?"
Dorian's eyes turned black, for deep hatred, "He was never worthy. Not fit
even for our RACE."
Bridget answered in a flat tone, "YOU are the one without any control over
your emotions." Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Dawn Furniss, sffworld.com. All rights reserved. No part of this may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the author.
