A thousand years after the first manned space flight, humankind has spread out among the stars. But the Pax Humana envisioned by many has not come to be as political, social, economic, and ideological factions struggle for control of the habitable worlds and the network of subspace corridors that links them. But on one world, Patmos, a visionary has created a place of refuge. A pirate, her brother, a former soldier, a scientist, a bio-engineered mechanic, an anthropologist, and a tech-melded anarchist aid him using a miraculous ship, The Archangel, created from a technology no one fully understands. Together, they will piece together old mysteries, expose human conspiracies, and find themselves hurled to the end of creation and back again, hoping to create one safe place in which to hide from the wave of chaos that is fast approaching.
