    Behind him the clan stood in a forlorn and broken circle, too many pieces to put back together again.

    Kai-ya passed a multitude of broken circles that night, a hundred clans all crying out to him and he ignored them all  he could fix none when the circle of his own heart lay shattered and seeping into cold air. As dawn broke on this new dream land of endless sand and ocean he laid himself down to sleep and dreamt in time with the flame he sought, the crater at the heart of the sacred mountain that could tell him and only him how to heal the ultimate wound.
