Darke Blade - Sword Of The Apocalypse
         by Robert Cameron Hazelton

In days of yore when magic flowed
and fierce knights battled gallantly
a cursed sword with blade that glowed
was forged in the fires of anarchy.

Tempered in the dark pits of hell,
hammered by an enchanted smith
with a thirst for blood none could quell
and necrology approaching myth.

Kingdoms rose and slowly crumbled
all at the whim of this sentient steel,
many proud heroes were cruelly humbled
blinded by the weapon's fatal appeal.

With seductive moans it promised glory
in exchange for a murderous feast,
as long as the carnage splattered gory
triumphant accolades never ceased.

But once the white flag was finally waved,
political intrigue replacing war
its true malevolence could not be staved
inviting disaster on those who bore.

An era of chaos hence unknown
exploded around this crimson-flecked hilt,
a soul-less force which could never atone
after all, cold metal feels no guilt.

The blade disappeared in antiquity
no one knows how or is really sure when
perhaps the pale rider of infamy
will unsheathe its evil once again.
