Chapter 1

Strange Robbery

1

Ten years ago

He went in hard and fast aiming for the throat and let his dagger fly. The ready Jadef ducked out of the way as he shot his broadsword up knocking the dagger out of the air. The barbarian took his multi-notched ax out of his sheath and swung hard at the Kinst's head. Dertax ducked low as the ax swung then leaped up and somersaulted over the startled barbarian. Taking his spear out of its sheath on his back Dertax stabbed Jadef in the gut before landing squarely beside him. The injured barbarian swung his broadsword around aiming low at the knees. When he got there he met nothing but air for the Kinst had quickly jumped to the side and was now poking the end of his long scimitar through the side of Jadef's neck. A moment later Dertax released his prisoner and handed him one of the vials he had around his belt.

"You seem to be getting better even though this training is for me," Dertax said sitting down on one of the many benches lining the arena wall.

The dying barbarian took the vial and drank it in one gulp instantly his wounds heal. "It is a good thing you had those vials, or I would be in a real fix."

"I didn't want to haul your limp body back to the temple to heal your corpse," Dertax said answering Jadef's statement.

"Yes, I wouldn't have signed on as your sparring partner knowing what you do in your spare time without knowing that I would be able to be resurrected free of charge. I mean who in their right mind would want to be revived just to be in debt with the temple for the rest of your life anyway." By the end of saying that both Dertax the Kinst and Jadef the Barbarian were heartily laughing at the comfort that they could use the temple's services free of charge as long as they keep the roads around Redive and Faser Bay free of highwaymen and bandits.

Present

"Shh, be quiet and stay alert we don't want them to alert the authorities which means don't let them notice you." A small dark figure crept out of the black alley followed closely by two hulking dark figures. Kires Millet mutters something under her breath as she taps the handle to Elder Tardid house three times with an orb staff. The door softly creaked open "good" Kires says as she turns to the smaller of her companions, "you go back to the docks. Tell them I'm in and bring back the pack." The orc turns to leave Kires calls back to him "make sure it is the blue pack or this whole operation will be for nothing, and all of us will be dead." The orc starts cursing as it thunders off. "Nerg is going to get us killed running off that loud." "Hrit come and stand guard as I go inside if anyone comes BESIDES Nerg kill them." The young woman crept inside the house only to hear the orc fighting something off already. Millet opens a sack she had hidden in her cloak and started rifling through the many shelves and cabinets every so often stopping and throwing some object into the sack. "Nerg has returned" the orc said after about ten minutes from outside the door. "Right, now shut up and continue fighting your mouse or rat or whatever you found." The woman sweeps out of the house to retrieve the sack stopping only to pick up a strange bow setting next to the door.
