The 1st Eye was a supreme being, linked to the Gods that now ruled this world. He communicated with them daily, received their guidance and instruction, which was then passed on through a series of mental thought waves to the initiates, who would dutifully carry them out.

As the 2nd Eye approached the massive red marble door that led to the 1st Eye’s chamber, he felt the command "enter" run through his mind.

Pushing the great door slowly, careful not to touch the engraved seal of the 1st Eye, the door moved inward heavily and silently, revealing a low-ceilinged chamber awash with a bright blue light that had no physical source.

With great trepidation, the 2nd Eye entered the holy chamber, allowing the door to close behind him. He stood straight as an arrow, awaiting the words that would forever change the path of his life.

A singular commanding voice spoke, "The Gods do not tolerate change."

The 2nd Eye let the words sink in deep.

The commanding voice continued, "If unchecked, these subtle waves will grow to become a tidal wave, and wash our world away. The Gods have commanded this to be stopped."

The 2nd Eye nodded in understanding. He too had seen this possibility.

"You saw what was permitted."

The second most powerful man in the land bowed deeply and humbly, remembering his place.

"Send forth the Warrior Initiates, and search for this child. When it is found, restore the calm."

The door behind him had opened silently. Leaving the chamber quickly, his mind immediately began the search for this child that had angered the Gods to violent action.

Rian’s first hunting arrow, fired from a crude and inaccurate bow, hit the absolute centre of the bull’s-eye. The town’s more experienced hunters, some of who still had yet to hit that mark, cried fluke. Rian, now six years of age, smiled, drew back the bowstring once more, and again hit the bulls eye.

At first, the rumours that came from the other children’s mouths were passed over as playful exaggerations, or perhaps even outright lies. No one could possibly be doing what they said was being done.

Yet incident-by-incident, it became hard to ignore that the child, was indeed a grown man in a growing body. He had the strength of a full-grown man, with the speed and dexterity greater than that of the village’s best hunter.

The child even spoke with a maturity and experience that only a lifetime could have provided. His outward body was that of a 6 year-old, but his soul was ancient.

It was this that had brought the fear. Fear of the attention he would inevitably bring to the town.

Their town was small, poor, and almost totally forgotten by the powers. Once a year, after the harvest had been collected, a young initiate of the Ancient and Holy Order of the Golden Eye came to the town to offer the Order’s blessing, and perhaps more importantly, collect tribute. Other than that one visit, they were left alone.

The Order of the Golden Eye promoted peace. The travelling initiates would always be heard saying, "Live peacefully, and all will be well." Peace had become a byword for submission. The order would not tolerate any deviation from this relationship.

Rian however, was beginning to tear that relationship apart. With the result being the town sure to be noticed, and disciplinary even surer to follow.

Rian showed no fear of this possibility. He showed not even the slightest interest if anyone mentioned the Golden Eye. Instead, he often spoke aloud the forbidden word; freedom. Freedom, independence and liberty were dangerous words that if ever heard by an initiate of the Order of the Golden Eye, would bring the penalty of death to the speaker.
