Cat House

The house was still beautiful even though it was now in a state of despair. There were turrets on each corner of the structure. Over the years ivy had slowly taken over the house, giving it an even eerier look. The windows were all busted out, probably by the local brats. They probably had nothing better to do, so why not destroy something beautiful? A dormer was centered on the middle of the roof. It had the only unbroken window in the building. That window was beautiful stained glass. Amazing that it hadn't been smashed out as well.

Renee took her camera out of her bag and zoomed in on the dormer for a good picture of the stained glass window. She snapped the picture and then took a few steps back to get the whole house in her next shot. Beneath her feet was the constant crunching of broken glass. It was hard to watch out for the shards due to the overgrown weeds and grass. Ivy had taken over the sidewalks leading to the house as well.

Carefully she began to make her way to the front of the sad building. Before stepping onto the porch, she gave it a good look over. It looked okay to stand on, pretty sturdy. But then again looks could be deceiving. Didn't matter, she stepped onto it anyway. Bracing herself, hoping she didn't fall through the old wood porch. Just a few squeaks, and creeps, but no sound of breaking wood. She let out a sigh of relief and reached for the doorknob on the front door.

"What do you think you're doing?"

Startled Renee jumped and gave a soft cry. For a minute she thought she was going to wet herself.

"Bitch, going exploring without me."

Renee let out a chuckle and turned around only to see her friend Suze.

"You scared the hell out of me," whined Renee.

"Good. That's what happens when you don't wait for me."

"You were late. I wait for no one," Renee replied smiling and motioned for Suze to join her.

"Uh uh. Both our fat asses will bring the whole porch down. Forget it."

"Come on. Let's go in and see what good pics we can get of this place," Renee coaxed.

"Why don't we walk around first? Get some pics out here and then we'll go inside."

"You're scared," taunted Renee.

"Am not," Suze shot back childishly.

Without argument, like a good trained friend, Renee jumped down from the porch to join Suze in the front yard. Sad front yard that it was.

"Okay," Renee began, "lets walk around."

Renee and Suze walked around the house, taking picture after picture. Around back the yard wasn't any better. The grass came up to their waist and they kept tripping over things. At one point Suze was completely grossed out by her run in with a dead cat.

"That's disgusting," cried Suze as she stepped over the carcass of the deceased.

"That's worse I think," Renee said pointing to the back porch, which was about ready to cave in.

Hanging from a noose from the porch overhang was another dead cat with flies buzzing about. It looked pretty recent.

"Okay, time to go back out front. Don't you dare even take a picture of that," Suze said as she began to go back.

Without listening to Suze, Renee aimed her camera at the poor animal and snapped a quick shot. Gross, but she couldn't help it. Hurriedly Renee joined Suze who was quickly making a beeline around the first dead cat.

Around front Suze began to pack up her camera gear.

"Hey wait a minute," Renee interrupted, "we still have to go inside."

"Forget it.
