The Lake by Wendy Holler
Page 3 of 3 On the ground, reaching from the lake, at her feet was what looked like a
tentacle with the suction cup things on the bottom. It reached up and curled
around Anne’s leg and pulled her into the lake.
From inside the tent Dennis heard the scream and quickly ran out to see what
was going on. He ran out just in time to see Anne being pulled in the lake by
something.
"Anne," he called, on the verge of panicking, he ran to the lake.
Dennis stood on the edge of the lake, not knowing what to do. He could see
the ripples from where Anne had just gone under, and from that spot came
another tentacle reaching out and grabbing hold of Dennis’s waist. He was able
to scream once and the tentacle crushed him and pulled him under the waters
surface.

At the first sign of light the old man headed up the mountain to the lake.
When he reached the top and saw only the jeep and a couple of tents, but no
kids he wasn’t surprised. He walked around, rummaged through their things to
see if he could find anything of value.
"Kids should have listened. They didn’t take care," he said to himself
smugly, disappointed that he didn’t make any real good leftover finds.
