The Trance (5 ratings) by Christopher Holliday
Page 2 of 4 Mitch claims that she was trying to kill him, and wanted to offer their son
as a sacrifice to the gods of Wicca. According to the police report, Mitch
found his wife in the basement with their son lying in a circle of candles
while making strange groaning sounds and sprinkling blood from their pet cat
over the body of the child. The police determined he was telling the truth
after searching the house and finding everything as he said it was. The
candles, the blood on the floor, on the child, and even her hands were covered
in the blood of the cat as well.
Mitch told the police that he had knocked her unconscious after seeing her
standing over their son with the blood all over her and him. He told them he
thought she had killed him and had acted out of pure instinct.
The police of course took her into custody, and found her to be mentally
unstable. She was sent to the institution not to be released until she was
found mentally competent.
At the birthday party Julie Monroe and the rest of the guests have begun
looking for David. They noticed he was missing shortly after his father had
left, during a game of hide and seek. They hadn’t called his father, mainly
because they figured the boy was just hiding and thought that they would find
him soon enough. Julie was beginning to get very worried though, because one of
the boys had mentioned seeing him talking to a strange lady just before the
game started, but she was sure the boy was around somewhere. "Nobody would want
to kidnap this boy; he isn’t from a rich family and his father is a really nice
man, and besides, something like that couldn’t happen to me." She thought.
Thoughts like this kept running through her mind over and over again. She
just wouldn’t allow herself to believe this boy had been kidnapped, especially
while she was keeping him. She continued to search for hours, but all she was
able to find was a small bottle of perfume lying by the edge of the road. Just
as she ran into the house to call the police she heard a bulletin on the radio,
something about a lady escaping the mental institution.
She ran to the phone and called the police. She told them everything she
could think of at that moment. Her mind was racing, thinking of all the
horrible things that could be happening to David. She completely forgot to tell
them about his father, she completely forgot to even call his father and let
him know that he was missing. When she hung up the phone all she could think
was, "Dear God what have I done?" And she began to cry.
Mitch went to his chair in front of the TV set and began searching through
the channels. As he was flipping through the channels he continued to look over
his shoulder, the thing is he didn’t even realize he was doing this. His hands
were beginning to sweat, and he began popping his knuckles.
He finally stopped flipping the channels and settled for the news. He was
just beginning to calm back down when he heard the broadcast lady.
"This just in: A young woman has escaped from the Greenville County Mental
Institution today. The name of the woman has not yet been released, but the
police describe the woman as being five eet nine inches tall, long blonde hair
and green eyes, she is also said to be dangerous and advise that everyone in
the local area try not to be out alone on the streets." She says. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Christopher Holliday, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
