Whatcu Gone Do? (6 ratings) by D.W. Hoskins

1/Octavius
It was a regular Mississippi out-of-school-and-ready-to-play type of day. I
was on the porch of Bryce's trailer, you know, the one that's not really a
porch, but an empty room of the house that had a door which led directly
outside. I was thirteen at the time and had been staying with Bryce after our
house burned down. After the tragic experience I kind of detached myself from
the rest of the world, and friends at the time, for me, was a big HELL NO! One
afternoon a few of my peers, definitely not friends, came to see Bryce. Bryce
was a kindergarten teacher and spent most of his Thursday afternoons teaching
chorus to local kids, from tots to teens.
I was chillin' on the porch with the old style GB, Game Boy, you know the
one with the size and shape of a VHS cassette but weighed a ton. Any way, I was
playing a little DarkWing Duck and let my imagination transform me into
"The terror that flapped in the night" because I didn't feel like dealing with
my nappy-headed, ass brothers at the time. Although those
heroes-on-a-half-shell were diving into another karate packed adventure I just
wasn't in the mood, so I made like a ninja myself and vanished.
I became so engulfed into the dull lime-green screen, that I hadn't noticed
the door creaking open and that Shavida and, her twin sister, Shavelle were
standing in front of me. They were maternal twins, about fifteen, Shavida and
her sister both had the same caramel-colored skin and facial features, everyone
could noticed that they were sisters, but no one could really recognize them as
twins. Shavida had a big ol' Sir Mix-A-Lot type booty and breast that would put
Colonel Sanders to shame. She was 5'4" and weighed about a $1.19 with thinly
braided jet-black hair, that had three multicolored beads on the end of each
plait. She also had acorn brown eyes and a smile that made every guys manhood
stand at attention as if she was a commanding officer of the Army. I'm telling
you the girl was very mature for her age. Her Sister, on the other hand, had
her hair in cornrows and a pug nose, like Shavida's, that made her look like a
cute pig. Now here's where the difference comes in, see the thing is Shavelle
was a big girl and she had an attitude that equally matched her weight, unlike
her fine ass sister.
"Where Bryce at?" Shavelle barked. "I don't even know." I said.
"Well you stay here don'tcha?"
"So?" My attitude equally matched hers.
"Well then where's he at?"
"In da back sleep."
"Why you ain't say that in the first place?"
"Just to piss you off."
"How you doin' Squid?" That was Shavida's sweet voice that time.
See Squid was a little nickname everybody gave me and since my name,
Octavius, looked more like octopus and since it seemed like a long and corny
name to give to anybody, that they had changed it to Squid. The octopus and
squid are both spineless creatures that rather run than fight and the name,
Squid, well describes me, for I rather run from a situation and be left alone
than to deal with it. "Ah-ight." Never looking up at either on of them the
whole time they had been there. "You thank you can go get Bryce fo' us,
please?" Shavida said. "Yeah, hol' on." Anything just to get away for a while.
