Chapter 1: The Lord of the Dragons

The dragon sped into the darkness of the cave. Damascus treaded carefully into the shadows. Fire spouted from every crack, which made light for Damascus. 'Halt, Damascus,' said a dark voice. Damascus came to a sudden halt. His teeth chattered and his knees shook. 'Be not afraid, child of the light, we are not Dragons of the Dark, we desire no hurt to you,' said the dark voice again. Damascus eased down. He stood up straight and looked around. All he could see was darkness. 'My name is Hyperion. I am the Lord of the Dragons,' said Hyperion. Hyperion breathed deeply and blew a swift sharp breath. Suddenly, torches appeared on the caves walls and began to light up. Damascus jumped back in surprise. 'Dragons are full of magic. But it is not often when one uses it,' said Hyperion. 'We do not hurt humans or any race, and for that the races leave us alone. They call us, "The Winds", meaning "Children of the Dawn",' said Hyperion with a smile. 'And I am the Father of the Dawn,' he added. Hyperion was large and he had a long snout. His teeth went over his bottom lip. His eyes were blue like ice. His skin changed colors when he moved. His smile was very heart-warming for a dragon. 'I know only your name, Damascus. I know not what you are here for,' said Hyperion. 'Well, I can faintly remember being hit in the head with a maul. I had a helmet, so I only went unconscious. It was at a battle in Xer'goth. I remember waking up and taking off my mail. I had a horrible headache, I still have it. I went unconscious and had a dream, or so I think. I then remember very faintly being chased by riders and then a dragon picked me up. I woke up here,' said Damascus. 'I see child. An evil enchantment has been laid upon you,' said Hyperion. 'What does it do?' asked Damascus. 'You go unconscious at any time and you wake up with amnesia. But when you go unconscious when you have amnesia, you remember everything. But the only thing you can barely remember is when you had amnesia,' said Hyperion. 'So, I have a spell upon me, that when I go unconscious I wake up with amnesia, know9ing not who or where I am, and then I go unconscious again and I wake up and remember everything very well except for when I had amnesia?' asked Damascus. 'Yes,' said Hyperion. 'Why is it so bad?' asked Damascus. 'Because at one time or another, you will forever have amnesia,' said Hyperion. Damascus' heart began to beat harder than ever. He found it hard to breathe. 'That explains why I remember Jonathan so faintly,' said Damascus. 'Is there a cure?' asked Damascus eagerly. 'Yes, there is only one cure, and it lies in the very heart of death,' said Hyperion. 'So you're saying I have to die?' asked Damascus. 'I have not finished yet,' he said. 'You must go and destroy he who hath brought the spell upon you. And only one man is powerful enough to do this. And that is, Hephaistos,' said Hyperion. 'Who is he?' asked Damascus. 'The Commander of the Orcs of the Mistwalker Clan, the most deadly of them all,' said Hyperion. 'Why does he want to hurt me?' asked Damascus. 'That I have no knowledge of,' said Hyperion. 'And how do you know so much?' asked Damascus. 'I know man things,' replied Hyperion with a smirk. 'I have not the strength, courage nor will to do this,' said Damascus. 'A warrior, who doubts himself, shall only know to doubt, and not to strengthen himself or teach himself to be braver. Have faith in yourself, for not even you know what you can do in the deep places of your heart. Now go, he lies in the dark tower of Galadon, west of here, into the land of Orcs,' said Hyperion. Damascus smiled. 'But what if I go unconscious and never become me again?' he asked. 'Courage and love are the only things that the darkness cannot stand, so if you stay true, love your companions, never give up hope and stay brave, darkness shall never endure,' said Hyperion. 'Go now, time is not to be wasted,' said Hyperion with a smile. 'I see you have met Thor, for he has brought you here therefore he will take you there,' said Hyperion. Thor bowed and said, 'I would be honored.' 'Now go w est, and find what you seek,' said Hyperion. Damascus felt a heavy burden upon him, a burden that he felt could never be taken off. They walked to the crack of the cavern and looked upon Aramoss again. He sighed. 'I know what you think,' said Thor, walking up next to him. 'Are dragons all that magical?' asked Damascus.
