It all began on a beautiful summer day. I had taken my son to the doctor's office at Children's Medical of Dallas for a hearing exam. We arrived early to get in before the crowd . The nurse called us back and not knowing what to expect, I rushed in behind her. The visit was very informing after we had discussed all of the reasons for his deafness, he ordered us to have an MRI. We entered the elevator and traveled to the fifth floor, we were immediately met by the radiologist, Dr. William Mark Steinberg, a nice looking man in his mid thirties. There was no instant attraction, I was more concerned with my son and his prognosis. They sedated him with a mild sedative and while it was taking effect Dr. Steinberg explained to me the procedure and what they would be looking for in the film. My son was finally out after about 30 minutes, that seemed to be eternity. They successfully got everything they needed to determine what had actually caused the deafness. Again Dr. Steinberg began to explain what he was seeing in the film as we were waiting for Dr. Brown to join us. Dr Steinberg was very impressed at my knowledge of the internal ear and the other medical terminology he was speaking, he asked if I was in the medical field. I responded no, but I had taken all my Nursing basics. He then asked what do you do? I stated I was trying to decide if I wanted to finish Nursing, Real Estate or Cosmetology, because I had always wanted to have my own business where women could come for complete makeovers, massages or just to get their hair done. He said"you sound like you have really thought about it , now all you need to do is make a decision. Finally Dr. Brown arrived he and Dr.steinberg discussed among themselves what they saw and what would be the best way to fix the problem. We were given a prescription to be taken for 6 months but he wanted to see us in 2 weeks, to see if there was any change.

The 2 weeks seem to go by as a day and we were back in Dallas. We followed the same routine and went for another MRI, this time there was hope that the medicine was actually working, I saw Dr. Steinberg briefly then Dr. Brown asked if we would return in four weeks, of course I agreed. Now 4 weeks had passed and back at the hospital, but this time the machine was down , Dr. Brown admitted us in the hospital so we wouldn't have to make another trip since the machine would be up and running in the morning. I went to the room and unpacked my overnight bag , my son had already went in for the night when the phone begin to ring. I was shocked being that noone knew we were there, answered the phone in confusion. It was Dr. Brown "hello I know I surprised you but I was just wondering would you like to have dinner with me?" I don't know how you feel about Chinese but anything is better than this hospital food, it would be a "sorry for the inconvenience dinner". Of course me not turning down a free meal meal said yes, just call before you come up. I began to watch my HGTV that I can't live without when the phone rang. I immediately picked it up not to wake my son. He was on his way up, I sat watching Trading Spaces when he arrived with the food. We sat eating and watching tv and talking during commercials. He said" I need someone like that at my house, I've lived there for 2 years but it still doesn't feel like home. I said" I would love to have an empty house to decorate, that would be great to shop with someone else's money. Well maybe you can work for me seeing that I never have the time to do it. Of course my first thought was I don't even know this man, how can I possibly do anything so demanding for him? Now there was dead silence and his pager began to go off, it was an emergency and he had to go. I thanked him again for dinner," I guess we'll see you in the morning" I added.
