The Day Dream Hero (3 ratings) by R. C. Keeley
Page 1 of 3 "Rya..."
"Ryan". I’m sure that names was familiar
"RYAN" shouted someone. Suddenly, I was awake. I had been daydreaming for
goodness knows how long. Focusing back to reality I realised where the shouting
had come from, and whom it was for. I suddenly realised who Ryan was. It was
I.
Mrs Thatchett was shouting my name from the front end of the classroom.
"Yea. Yes miss" I replied, eventually.
"Oh you are with us?" she said sarcastically, "now answer the question". Her
large eyes seemed to pierce into my very soul, I was terrified. She was the
most
feared and hated teacher in the whole school. I could not answer her question,
whatever it was.
"You obviously haven’t been paying attention Ryan. Never mind, I think a
detention tonight will be the perfect opportunity for you to catch up."
"Oh please miss" I pleaded anxiously. This was to be my third detention this
week, and there was no way I could miss football practice again. "I’ll, I’ll
pay
attention, I won’t daydream anymore. Please miss"
"No! You’ll be coming to detention tonight and that’s final." She stated
heavily. Her voice was just as piercing as her eyes. "Now be quiet and listen
with the rest of the class, and if I catch you daydreaming again, I’ll make it
a
double detention." Nobody dared argue with Mrs Thatchett. Many of the pupils
thought she led a secret life as a witch. She certainly had the looks for one.
Not many women I knew had a hooked nose like she did.
This was bad, having a detention tonight of all nights. For Thursday nights
was the night the secret group of Hemoids held their regular meeting. Hemoids
are a race of peaceful alien creatures who are currently locked in a secret war
with the Mutons, a race of slimy, slithery creatures who like to feast on human
flesh. Both races are the remaining survivors of a planet that was destroyed by
a comet hundreds of years ago. They both managed to secretly transport
themselves to earth in tiny spaceships.
Since there aren’t that many, both the Hemoids and the Mutons tend to
operate
very secretly. Not many humans know about them. How could they, when, like the
Hemoids, they can take on human form and live amongst us?
Now tonight was an important night, as Sepura, the head Hemoid was to
dictate
to his members the next tactical force to use against the Mutons, and I, as
there sole human protector, was going to be there to hear it. At least I would
have been had it not been for this detention. There was nothing for it; I had
to
call for Sepura’s aid. Out of my blazer pocket, I took out what looked like a
silver tennis ball with a single red button protruding out it. This device
given
top me by Sepura as a token of thanks for letting him use my garden shed as a
meeting point was only to be used for emergencies, and getting out of a
detention headed by Mrs Thatchett was an big emergency. I pressed the red
button
and put the device back in my pocket. And then I paid attention to the Mrs
Thatchett and waited.
It must have been about twenty minutes, twenty minutes of dictation by Mrs
Thatchett and mind numbing boredom when there was a sudden knock on the
classroom door. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 R. C. Keeley, sffworld.com. All rights reserved. No part of this may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the author.
