Ted woke up to his familiar surroundings. He yawned long and his eyes threatened to close again. Ted was in fact lazy and not very disciplined. This was considered bad for his occupation and the only reason he has an occupation was because of his raw talent.

Ted was an apprentice to a Magician of insignificant powers. Ted’s master was more interested in court politics then of doing any real research or even practicing his arts. This was in fact why Ted exploited his master. He knew he could get away with it.

He yawned again, ‘I really should get up.’ He thought to himself. He lay there pondering whether or not to get up. This took quite some time and eventually Ted got up. He went through his normal morning routine washing his face etc.

One benefit he liked about his occupation apart from the fact that he hardly worked was that his master was rich and paid for anything Ted wanted to keep him happy.

He slept in a big luxurious room with wardrobes filled with robes and other such things. He had potential to be a great magician if he studied but with a master like Ted’s no work ever gets done.

As of late Ted was getting bored, he was just running out of things to do and was considering learning some more spells, as he only mastered two spells. He skimmed through his beginners spell book but nothing caught his eye. He flicked through two more spell books but they were all boring. The he had an idea, he knew his master was away today on actual business for the magician society so he dashed through the house to his masters quarters on the top floor. He reached for the door and got a little shock when he touched the handle. He quickly snatched his hand back. Damn his master did actually put wards on his door but to Ted’s advantage it was very powerful else he would have got more then a little shock. He supposed he was lucky his master was not a very accomplished magician.

Of the two spells he knew only one was ant good and useful. It was a neutralising spell. It would be no good against powerful wards but his master didn’t set powerful wards.

He raced back down into his room and got out his small beginners mana boost staff and raced back to his master’s quarters.

He stood in front of the door and took a deep breath. He slowly went over the words in his head. Happy enough that he still knew them he held his staff close to the door. He recited the words and when he finished the spell sent a raw blast of mystic energy down the staff into the door. The ward dissipated into the cold mid morning air.

He stepped forward and opened the door. His master’s room was gigantic. Tables stood everywhere with different scrolls on and letters and objects of magic. His master spent a lot of his money on buying powerful scrolls and rare magic artefacts. Ted’s eyes went wide.

He didn’t know where to go first. Then suddenly alarm bells rang forth at the first gate signalling his master’s arrival. He quickly looked at different scrolls and found a recall spell. He grabbed that along with a handful of different scrolls and left. He shut the door behind him and read the scroll of recall when he finished enchanting it he aimed its magic at the door. Instantly the ward was replaced.
