The Merman (1 rating) by Sarah Kendall
Twisted locks frame an elfin head,
Entwined with pearls from the old sea bed.
Slanted eyes glow from a face,
Young yet wise, from an ancient race.
He gracefully lies upon the shore
The warm sun glittering on every pore.
Beautiful fish man, spirit of the sea
His plaintive song, it beckons to me.
I watch him from amongst the dunes
As he snares me with his magical tunes
In a voice so sweet it summons me
To share his world in the cruel dark sea.
I cannot think, I cannot speak
All I can see is the ocean deep.
My body moves along the sand
He smiles at me, he takes my hand.
His scales are warm, his grasp is firm
To ride the waves with him I yearn.
He calls me to his cold domain
I follow meekly, I feel no pain.
He holds me close, he holds me still
Beneath the waves where I do feel
The water flooding over me
Yet I can breathe, yet I can see
The finest details in his face
I long to share this magical place
With the merman, green and pale
Who bestowed me with a fishes tail
To glide through this submarine land
With a watery sky, the earth as sand.
Will I ever return to the dry world above?
Not while I have my fish tailed love
Oh to never hear his song again!
A part of me will always remain
There below the endless tide
With my aquatic friend there by my side.
