After an exhilarating party Joel Grames went directly home. Joel had felt he had seen enough for one night. As Joel walked through his front door, a loud crash erupted from the kitchen. Joel stopped in between the doorway, frozen for a brief moment. He stood perfectly still while his heart hurled into an abrupt gallop. Then his instincts kicked in and convinced his muscles to move. With a quick walk, much like a speed walker in a local mall, and it was obvious Joel shared the determination and focused look that the speed walkers show he moved towards the kitchen. The entire house was dark because Joel simply hadn’t had time to flip the light switch. He had made the trek from the front door to the kitchen thousands of times, so had he no trouble maneuvering. As he went into the kitchen he heard a faint scratching in the direction of the sink. If it were not for his senses being heightened by the adrenaline rushing through his arteries, he may never of heard it all. Joel froze once again a fter detecting the sound. Then he made a slow calculated movement with his right arm, by some freak luck Joel was standing immediately underneath the chain that was connected to the kitchen light. His hand cautiously grasped the chain, hoping for it not to clank against the glass covering as it almost surely would and also praying it was the correct chain. You see, there were two chains to chose from, one was for the light and the other was for the ceiling fan. With one final prayer Joel jerked down on the chain he had chosen.

"Clank!"

Sure enough the chain hit the light fixture, and made the noise of metal hitting glass. Joel expected to be blinded by the brightness that the light would spray, but instead got slight breeze from the fan. Instincts took over again and he grabbed the correct chain and pulled. He tugged with such violence that not only did the light come on, the chain was yanked out of the switch completely.

So there Joel stood with chain in hand and blinded while his pupils un-dialated to soak in the splashing light. In front of him sat a pure white kitten with a guilty look on its face.

" Holy shit! You really had me freaked out." Joel exhaled and dropped the chain.

" Meooowww!," the kitten replied.

" Were in the hell did you come from?"

"Meoowww!"

Joel reached down to the kitten and patted on its head with graceful gentleness, especially for a man his size. His large hand fit his husky physique and made the kitten look even tinnier than it first appeared.

" I bet you’re hungry aren’t you? I bet you are. Aren’t you, you cute little kitty. Yes, yes, you are. Aren’t you just the sweetest thing," Joel baby talked.

Joel’ s heart instantly melted over the cute kitten, which he had never seen until that night, and his demeanor changed from fear to affection. The kitten purred and began meowing even louder as if it knew Joel was going to offer it food. Joel opened the refrigerator and peered in.

"Well, let’s see what we have in the fridge for mister....... or is it misses kitty? Hmmmm. What do you say we take a look?" he asked.

He reached down and scooped up the purring kitten and held it in his arms, much like one would hold a baby. He stared toward the area where the kittens genitals would be. However, he could see nothing but white hair.
