The Brave Scout (3 ratings) by Cathleen L. Mann
Page 2 of 3
Forever defend God and Country
Through the white-driven snow and the skies of blue
Plant and preserve our counties
Give unto others as they give unto you
Call each other Brother
Unite in peace and war
And drive out the dark forevermore...

DARKNESS SPREADS
The land of Mytheon was called to bear arms, for every turn was fraught with
danger
Legions of armies were on the alert and all were prepared to defend
Rumors were flying in taverns and stores that the Dark Days had come to
pass
And sooner or later, evil deeds would be done and the lives of good people
were lost
The evil God Othorian laughed with great glee as his minions spread
destruction
In his hunger for power and his passion for blood, he was thrown down from
the dias of Good
In revenge he plotted to wipe out the sun and turn every good thing to
bad
For only the hopeless would loyally serve and carry out his evil plans
-His darkness spread over the land.

FAREWELL THEE, GILDENSLEEVE
The Scout and Bular, three elves and five dwarves bid farewell to
Glidensleeve
To Constantine Island, ten leagues from the shore where the talisman is
buried at sea
The dangers were plenty, the comforts few and the winds blew cold and
hard
These ten destined strangers - on a journey of hope - with the weight of the
world on their minds
They rode...
Days beyond counting the band crossed the vast land and friendships began to
grow
One day in a ravine, in the blinding rain they were set upon by three angry
trolls
The Scout would be dead if it hadn't been for Ben - a dwarf with shoulders
of
steel
With his axe, he cut off the hand of a troll that choked the life out of his
friend
"Do what you can, you’re a fine young man! The ships awaits and we must get
through
Take the South Path, be sure to cover your tracks! Give the signal and we'll
follow you"
Bular firmly shook the hand of the Scout and said "Do you not remember
me?"
"Your father, my son, took you away too young. But you've turned out as
brave
a man as he"
With words of encouragement from his grandfather and friends, the Scout set
out on his own
But the South Path was crawling with Othorian's scum and he had to fight all
alone
At land's end he shot down the sentries on guard and set fire to a fallen
tree
With the sky ablaze, the signal was made and the world's hope ran to the sea
The pirate ship that boarded that violent night sailed uneventfully to Isle
Constantine
While the company rested, an air hose was constructed and the elf Cailin
jumped into the sea
He swam down, down to a hole in the ground and dropped in the pebble Bular
had given him
Then, per the Druid's instructions he struggled to the surface as fast as he
could swim
But before Cailin could reach the boat, the waters exploded and he was never
again to be seen
His friends on the ship cried out his name as a wooden stake sprang from the
sea
Impaling itself at Bular's feet, the Staff of All Wizards was present
But oh, at what cost, a mighty elf was lost! Each man hung his head in
grief.
The Staff Of All Wizards looked ordinary, and nothing like a powerful
weapon
The crystal imbedded in the grain of the wood was lifeless, its shine
