Charity Hall by Joe McArdle
Page 2 of 3 He looked straight at her. A woman's voice spoke to her.
"You're probably wondering why we've asked you along here, Mr. and Mrs.
DeBuyers-Innsellers. My name is Sylvia Boat-House Lamplighter. I'm the
chairperson of the case review panel. The reason we've invited you both down
here is to discuss some things about Jenny and Benny. "
"Oh, what things? Mrs DeBuyers-Innsellers jumped out of her chair.
Mrs Sylvia Boat-House Lamplighter sat down and opened a file in front of
her. She stopped at a page and put her glasses on.
"Mr. and Mrs. DeBuyers-Innsellers.. I'll just go over the ...the details
of...
what I have...here. Briefly. Jenny, female. Age, sixteen. Benny, male, aged
three. Address. Lovely View, 999a Such-A-Quiet Street, Snob Hill, Lakeside, SE
21. Length of adoption. Eighteen months. Type of environment. Family. I won't
bother with the list of agencies and authorities. Be here all day. Well to be
frank, something's been brought to our attention about Jenny and Benny, and,
well we're quite concerned about it. Very concerned, in fact, Mr. and Mrs.
DeBuyers-Innsellers"
"Please tell us what happened."
"That's what we want you to tell us." Another voice spoke to her.
"I'm Assistant Chief Constable Sherlock Blazing-Gunz, Mr. and. Mrs.
DeBuyers-Innsellers. I'm leading this investigation concern...."
"Investigation? What's..." Mrs. DeBuyers-Innsellers was in mid air.
"Could you please tell us why we've not been able to contact either of you
for the last six days?"
"We've been on the yacht. Just ourselves. We wanted time to ourselves. It's
the first break we've had in, oooh. Almost.... six weeks. Isn't it, Morris?"
Mr. DeBuyers-Innsellers nodded for charity.
"Were you aware that you are supposed to leave a contact number if you were
ever going away? And arrange suitable supervision"
"Yes, but yes. The yacht Club had. I know. We should have. We arranged all
.. didn't someone ..But, what's happened to our babies? What's happe.."
"They're safe, Mrs. DeBuyers-Innsellers. We need to ask you both a few
questions, Mr. and Mrs. DeBuyers-Innsellers."
"Now? But what about... what's.."
"In the early hours of Monday morning, police were called to your premises
after receiving complaints about loud music. The police requested the volume be
turned down. Which was complied with. No further action was taken. However.
Officers were called again later that day about the noise and also the large
number vehicles outside your premises, causing an obstruction to traffic. The
officers, unable to locate the owners, ordered the music to stop and the
premises to be emptied. A warning was then left for the owners or occupants.
The following day, Tuesday."
He monitored to see if she was maybe taking in the fact, that the next day
after Monday, was Tuesday. She nodded. He continued.
"The Fire Brigade were called to investigate complaints about a water leak
near your premises which was overflowing into surrounding gardens. On arrival
at the scene the fire officers noticed numbers of dolphins diving into wishing
wells and other water features in surrounding properties. This then required,
the Fire Service report the matter to the Department of Marine Life, who then
took over the investigation. During the initial investigation by the officials,
it became clear that other marine mammals were lying around the premises in
what appeared to officers, as being a distressed state. A decision was then
taken by the senior officer on the scene to seal off the premises and remove
the mammals for medical examination. The police were informed of this action
and were asked to gain entry to the property to search for any other mammals or
other life that may be in danger. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Joe McArdle, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
