Doesn't the fact that he wins the lottery mean that the improbable event had inevitably occured?", the physicist had replied.

"But his chances of winning the lottery do not increase as more people enter the lottery, do they?"

"Not for any individual in general, but in fact, it will turn out, that the person who eventually is to win the lottery, had had more of a chance of winning it, as more people entered the lottery. Would you like us to explain the mathematics behind it?"

"No, you are just playing with words".

"Tell me something", another man said. The two scientists had then turned to him in unison.

"If it is so improbable that you are standing there, its much more improbable your floating about in the air. So, that would be more 'stable' by your theory. Why then isnt everybody defying gravity, cocking a snook at Newton, and liberally flying around?"

"Thats because the initial conditions are missing. All it needs are suitable initial conditions, which of course we are unaware of, and I assure you, the improbable event would indeed happen and continue to happen and get more and more stable"

"In fact...", the physicist had said, then had stopped because the scientist had begun to talk at the same time. But the scientist had stopped too. Each then had waited for the other to resume. Neither moved. Then they both had began talking at the same time. And had stopped in unison.

Both men grew increasingly desperate. But breaking out of it was impossible.
