Children of Earth (Book Excerpt) by Dennis Ogden
Page 3 of 3 Johnny grinned back, "You can win easy, dressed or naked,
I'll vote for you."
Rod jumped in, "If you two can stop making eyes at each other,
we can get back to work." Then he too grinned at Sammy, "I'll vote for you
too."
Just then an eleven year old came up and handed them two pairs
of coveralls, "These are the biggest sizes there are, there's smaller if these
are too big." He darted away. The boys pushed their legs into the coveralls,
shrugged them over their shoulders and buttoned them up.
Johnny said, "Let's give them all time to talk themselves out,
there'll be new kids thawing out for a few hours yet. They said it takes eight
hours to thaw everybody out. After they settle down a bit we can see about
figuring out what to do next.
"We'll need food before that, and water," said Rod, "They
pumped our stomachs out, and I can't go eight hours without something to
eat."
A young girl came up, "Sir, I found the bathrooms, they're
over there in the corner."
Rod looked startled, nobody had ever called him sir before.
"Thanks, get someone to help you find a kitchen, or some food for us or
something, will you. What's your name?"
"Yes sir, I'm Amanda, sir!" she darted off. Johnny and Sammy smiled at each
other. Rod was doing just fine.
