The Lady on the Road

By Anthony Olheiser

Into the forest
I boldly road.
Daring the darkness
were no one would go.
Dismissing stern warnings
from friend and foe.
"Yon' forest is haunted
by the Lady on the Road!"

As I entered the darkness
of that wooded realm,
ancient pine and oak
moonlight overwhelmed.
A carpet of decay
muted horses hoof,
no Lady on the Road
did my eyes find proof.

Eons of time
this forest has seen,
weight of it's ages
pressed down on me.
When unto my ears came
a melancholy chime,
" Good sir, this way,
rest those eyes of thine."

A will of its own
my body did obey,
the seductive voice
that came my way.
Leading me onward
to the very home
of that haunting aberration,
the Lady on the Road.

Naked as the forest
she appeared to me.
Emerald eyes, mesmerizing,
as deep as the sea.
Flaxen hair that draped
over bosom, lily white.
The spell of her charms
I could not fight.

To beconing arms
I did not hesitate.
Ruby lips I drank,
no thought of my fate.
The forest rejoiced
as our passion arose,
thus melted together
Time's passage froze.

When my journy began
I can not say.
When I met the Lady
I know not what day.
How long I have been here
to me is unknown,
blistfully lieing in the arms
of the Lady on the Road.
