Kared's Children - Intro
         by Dennis Owens
Surrounded by seas too vast to cross and mountains too savage to explore, Kared exists precariously as a land where travelers disappear mysteriously, communication between its too few cities is rare and difficult, and whose people, surviving tenuously amid hardship, rumor, and fear, have forgotten an heritage far richer than their mundane lives might suggest. But a peace they have enjoyed so long that they believe its beginning a myth is about to end, and their only hope for survival will depend on a new generation of heroes: ordinary and not-so-ordinary people who will face extraordinary challenges. What those heroes will be forced to learn may surprise them: myth often has basis in fact, they are defined by their pasts and their relationships to others, perception sometimes limits rather than shapes, and in the darkest moments, compassion may be the greatest gift of all.

Epic in character, politics, history, and scope, Kared’s Children is the heretofore unpublished novel which marks the beginning of the Kared cycle.
