Winthrey grabbed one of the lit torches from the wall and threw it onto the dead vermin. The fur coat immediately began to singe and wither, and the smell of cooked meat started to waft into the air. " May all traitors burn," he whispered softly.

When they were walking back to the stairwell, he said to his father: " he has followers. Servants who were just as bad as him. I saw them tonight."

" We’ll let Helix and his men take care of them," was his only reply.

They were silent for the rest of the trip up the stairs. It took them over 20 minutes to climb them, and by the time they reached the top, Winthrey was beyond tired. Every muscle in his body felt as if it was going to collapse. He had thought near the end of their upstairs journey that he wouldn’t be able to make it, but with one last gasp of will power he was able to collapse against the wall inside the hall.

And there they were, king and prince, laying there until one of the night guards found them. They were both asleep, and when he found them he first thought they were dead.

But no, they had escaped death that night.

They had killed there enemy, but if there was one thing Winthrey had ever learned in his training, it was that there would always be more.....
