Blind Man's Shadow (3 ratings) by Jason Palumbo
Page 7 of 7 The blade struck off my shield and fell to the ground. Then he tried to
flee, but I was upon him. He turned as an animal at bay and slashed at me with
his one remaining fang. I cut the knife from his hand, cut it at the elbow. He
gave a great shout at that, and I smote him soundly with my shield. He crumpled
to the dirt, and I spitted him where he lay. I cleaned my sword on the dry part
of his cloak and came back to you. And that is all there is to the tale.
Ah, but you are handy with your arms as well, Shadow, or so it goes in your
tale. And a good tale it is, Shadow. I am fair pleased. Yes, yes.
It is good to have met with you, Shadow, and I pray that we should talk
again. Excitement of this sort makes a man young, and we have much work ahead
of us ere weve made a suitor of you.
But we are come to the cobblestones and are nearly home, Shadow. You must
go, yes?
Shadow?
Shadow?
Gone.
Ah, well, perhaps you are not so left-footed after all. Now how am I to
explain your coat to my servants? Vexing youth. Yes, yes.
