He was a little bigger than me and could easily kick mine without sweating.

"Yeah?" he looked a little surprised.

My heart was starting to pound harder.

"Well, in that case… I better take you out there." He said with a big smile.

I was a little relieved to say the least, but I didn’t know what else to say. The Moses I knew would have put me in a headlock and tortured me until I gave up for saying anything like that.

We rode our bikes as far as we could until we had to walk across a few miles across the tundra out past the massive government radio towers called White Alice. By the time we stopped, we were pretty close to the river.

"You went way the hell out here?"

"Yeah, I was following Lupie. He finally stopped around here somewhere… there’s a foxhole…"

"Over here." I said. It had been dug up some. "Lupie must have really been going at it."

"Yeah, once he smells blood, he gets real primal."

"So, what happened here?"

"Well, after Lupie got down there a little ways I took over. I was digging around and found this…"

Moses pulled something out of the ground that looked like a large metallic egg about the size of a grapefruit.

"What the hell is that?" I asked.

"A large metallic… egg… of some kind. I really don’t know what it is… All I know is when I found it, it felt warm then it started to vibrate after a few minutes and there was this high pitch sound that nearly drove me deaf. I remember getting dizzy as hell and that was it. I woke up some time later, not knowing where I was and how I got here. Lupie was gone. I think he started barking like crazy before I passed out. I still had this thing in my hand… I just buried it back in the spot where I found it. Want to touch it?"

"Hell no! Keep that thing away from me." I moved backwards away from him.

"Don’t worry… whatever it is, I think it was a one shot deal."

"One shot of what…?’

"Well, you and everyone else have been wondering why I’ve been acting differently, I’m sure. The whole thing is a little hard to explain since I don’t know exactly what is going on myself. Like I said when I came to, I couldn’t remember anything. Shit, when I picked up the shotgun, I didn’t know what it was. I nearly killed myself when I pulled the trigger. It scared the crap out of me so I threw it into the river there. I didn’t know what else to do so I sat down and tried to think. Some shit came back to me slowly. I don’t know how long I sat here. When I finally saw you guys, things were still very fuzzy up here. I certainly didn’t mean to make you worry, Curly Joe. And I didn’t mean to lie to you when I said I couldn’t remember what happened. For the most part that is true. What was I going to tell you? I’m still trying to understand what the hell happened to me. All I know right now is I have this real urge to learn things, anything and everything. I have no idea why. I know it’s weird as hell, but I can’t help myself. There are moments when I get a little scared of this, what ever it is. But it’s also very exciting at the same time to learn so much.
