Rachel Santesso (9 ratings)
         by John Parker

Rachel Santesso

Everyone was watching her,
her beauty was sublime.
She had a glow, and seemed to be
from someplace else in time.
I smiled at her, and she smiled back-
I knew it had to be.
I'd searched so long for life, and it was
She, she, she.

I wanted to find out her name
and if she lived alone.
She didn't feel me staring
as she sat there on her own.
I planned to buy her diamond rings,
our home would be palatial.
She'd close her eyes and I would whisper:
Rachel, rachel, rachel.

I wrote her countless poems
and she didn't even know it;
But one day soon I'd tell her
it was me, the mystery poet.
I researched long and hard
to find her number and address-
the nameplate by the entrance door
confirmed it: Rachel S.

She seemed a little nervous
when it started getting dark.
She tried to hide her fear but
I could smell it like a shark.
She wanted to avoid me-
I didn't love her less, though.
Nothing would prevent me
from loving Miss Santesso.

I phoned to hear her say hello:
She always said it twice.
Then once- then she stopped answering.
Her silence, cold as ice.
Her absence had betrayed me-
The void was like a knife.
How dare she be so cruel
when she was My Future Wife.

Time was getting short now.
I'd make her understand.
The hourglass of my patience
was running out of sand.
I searched for her to no avail-
it was what I most feared.
The nameplate and the number changed...
she'd simply disappeared.
