Page 13 of 29 Pedrick grumbled as he ran off to where the mystery man ran past.
Pedrick grew tired of Fred’s constant ruling. He wished he was the leader of
the squad.
Pedrick had walked for about an hour before he sighted the dark figure
again. He was tired and fatigued and wished he could be back in Yoct. Even with
Gonz. Pedrick hid behind a tree watching the man as he warmed by a fire. He got
a better glimpse of the man but didn’t know if he was of Getrau’ or not. He
decided to jump him from behind with his quaterstaff and fight him off. Pedrick
readied himself to attack. All grew silent as he waited for the right moment.
The man turned his back to get some wood. Pedrick pounced. The man had only
turned around to find himself fighting over Pedrick. He noticed the soldier was
not very strong and threw him off of him. Pedrick flew back and got up quickly.
The man, as Pedrick saw, drew his sword and leaped upon him. Pedrick threw up
his staff and blocked the well-aimed attack. Pedrick returned the attack but
was thrown off balance as the staff ricocheted off the great sword. Pedrick was
off-balance. He stumbled backward, staff raised high in the air. The swordsman
slashed Pedrick.
He fell to the ground, in two pieces. The swordsman looked down to the
fallen warrior. He would’ve given him a proper burial, but had no time. He
threw the carcass onto the fire and prayed silently for his soul. He decided to
say a few words, as the man’s deceasor.
"I, Xavon the swordsman, honor you, warrior."
Goater studied the documents he had copied carefully. All here was every war
plan, and every battle recorded in one small journal. Goater had learned much
about the two men, Gondo and Gonz. He had always thought that Gondo was
ruthless, but he had let warriors go from the battlefield and spared others.
Gonz however was pure evil. He would never trust Gonz ever.
Goater began to get hungry and thirsty in his entrapment. He would soon have
to eat. he had been trapped for at least a day now, and his light was running
thin. he had searched the room many times for a way out but never found
anything. But Goater sometimes heard water dripping below him. He did not know
what it meant. He had searched the floor but found nothing.
Goater stood surveying the floor. He could not make anything of where the
water came from.
He stood looking at the floor for hours. Only now did he notice a pattern in
the stone tiles. The stones formed a sort of map! It was of this very room,
noticed Goater. He saw on it a secret door leading below the room. He traced
the map into steps and found himself upon a cabinet. He used his qauterstaff to
pry the cabinet over. Under it revealed a latch with a key hole in it. Goater
had found a way out! he took the key from his pocket and put it in the lock. He
twisted it and turned it but nothing. There was a different key. Looks like
Goater isn’t out just yet. But if he didn’t hurry, he would die of
dehydration.
Verd stomped about the castle now under his rule. He had stayed here for
only a short time but now he began to feel as if it were his home all along. He
had to make new plans now of attack.
He decided it best to eliminate Gonz first. He was definitely in the weakest
state he would ever be in. Then he would take over Getrau’. Next Page Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2001 Josh Pereira, sffworld.com. All rights reserved.
